salvatore.mele 1 Posted September 23, 2005 Shall you be biased, and love sailboats, to like this picture? Or is there enough interplay of colours, shadows, lights and shapes to catch your eye? Your comment on this and my other sailing shots would be most welcome! Link to comment
labuenaluz 0 Posted September 23, 2005 I like your intention Salvatore, the composition with main sail and spinnaker w/very fancy colors is kind of eyecatching, I see you captured earlier those patterns I would like the scene more to the right alltought including mast and the perspective union, regards Link to comment

pnital 36 Posted September 24, 2005 I like the volume of the spars that looks like flying with the wind, and the play of lights shadow and colors on them. very unusual composition with the thin lines that are connecting them to the other side ( left hs.) of the frame. It works for me Pnina Link to comment
sef1664877429 0 Posted September 24, 2005 The sails seem to be performing different roles, here. The bottom one gives an impression of height, and the top one, a feel for the wind. I like the composition, lots of sharp and curved triangles interacting. That shadow on the purple bit up top seems a little distracting, but a minor point. It feels... good. Link to comment
jeremy freeland 0 Posted September 25, 2005 I like this for the same reasons mentioned above, primarily, when it comes to the composition, the work on triangles, curves and curved triangles. I also like the way you've brought out the different light on each of the sails - one in the sunlight, and one behind it. It's the light, imo, that makes the shot. One little nit is the polarizer is very apparent in the middle of the frame - I think the purple portion of the sail at the top of the frame tends to emphasize this. But, that combination of blue skies, whites and light is always a good one - really refreshing to view. Link to comment
salvatore.mele 1 Posted November 14, 2005 I never thanked you all for your comments on this shot. I think I agree with basically everything you've mentioned.Ferrando I did not include the mast, since there was the socket used to hoist and lower the spinnaker. Not a very aesthetic view at the very top of the scene in a focal point. Compositionally, though, you are perfectly right.A.K., Julio, Pnina ThanksStephen I never got around deciding if I liked or not this effect of the different sails, actually, but I'm glad it pleases you. The shadow on the purple sector, from our radar, was actually something I liked a lot and waited -patiently- to get right...Jeremy I agree that the polarising is a tad too much. Often I try to force myself in backing up 1/8 of a turn before shooting, but with the wind, the sea, the sky and so on, the deeb blues get intoxicating, and I fail to obey to this self-imposed rule...A problem I've always had with this shot, though, has been the apparent unbalance of the shape/texture/function of the two sails. After having thought about it for a while, I got around tryinganother crop... Link to comment
