Coastal Fire Lava Flow (best large)

vincetylor

The fourth from a series of ocean-entry volcano images taken last Summer. Shot at somewhere between f/11 - f/16 and the shutter is perhaps a couple of seconds, or maybe even longer. Cannot remember for sure. Wasn't really paying attention. I was somewhat in awe or scared or... As always any opinions are appreciated. Aloha. www.hawaiianphotos.net

The fourth from a series of ocean-entry volcano images last Summer.

Unlike the other three before this one, nightfall has set in, so now

the colors have become much more harsh comparitively speaking. Reds

and yellows now rule. While the first three were captured from a

ways up on the ridge, for this (and perhaps one more extreme close-

up) I am down on the beach very close to the action. Yes, you can

feel and smell the heat! As always ANY opinions are appreciated.

Aloha.

I liked your others a little more than this. I think its probably due to the amazing colors of the light that give the others that extra punch. Now that's not to say I wouldn't be happy with this, I would. Could you see anything other than the lava? I think the bright lava would make it very difficult to compose this. Thanks for sharing - Sean

I too somewhat prefer the uniqueness of the other two Sean. However, I think this one is a little more what people actually envision with the volcano. Yes you could see around pretty well on this evening. Still, needed a flashlight on the hike back to the car. A very long, but eventful evening. Thanks for the comments.

I think Sean said it well. I really like this, and liked the others even more. I'm more of a naturalist and like to see things in their context. With the reduced ambient light, this image is more graphic with attention more strongly focused on the lava. I do like the longer exposure and the its rendering of the steam. Also, what a great experience.

Love this series Vincent. The colours as you've mentioned really come out. The inner red border adds a nice touch to the overall aesthetic.

Thanks for your opinions. Yes Stephen the experience was actually greater than anticipated. I was able to get as close as I could handle and shoot until I was shot. I have since went back once just last month. Hiked eight miles round trip at night with flashlights with my son, only to never even get the camera out of the bag. Zero! Was just nothing available without risking our lives. The location we did not go onto fell into the ocean three weeks later...

This is not cropped Roger. In fact I rarely crop anything since I need to print very large. Is imperative I compose correctly the first time. Not always the case, but I do try. Thanks again. Aloha.

I to prefer the other two over this one, but this one show the RAW power of the volacno much better. The reds and yellow convey the sense of violent nature of the volcano to the view more dramatically then the previous images...And you never know which one will sell better. :-))

Nice exposure..I like the bit of blue streak that seperates the sky out from rest othe image.

I have liked your lava pictures for some time already. I think you have done a great job taking these pictures, because there is always small/higher risk. Lava is nothing to play around with, but it does look beautiful. I like this picture because it's visually beautiful and you also kind of forget what it is, simply because it's beautiful.

I have to tell you...every so often, I come back to your photos and take another browse. You amaze me...every time I visit your work I am still in complete awe. I especially love your volcano shots. When a was a little girl I always wanted to be a volcanologist. I have always been amazed by volcanoes. Thank you so much for your inspiration to all of us. As I have said before...I aspire to be as good as you.
