This is a good capture, which shows good timing. It appears you focused correctly and exposed correctly. That being said, it looks as if is suffers a little in the crop, or was shot at a very high iso. It is also overall not as sharp as I wish it was. I think you brought out the best of this image in post-processing, and it is worthy of encouraging comments. I do like the out of focus foreground elements as well as the out of focus background - it all adds three dimensionality. I'm trying to do some nature photography with a 300mm lens too, and the bottom line is we need 600mm of APO or ED tele power to really do this kind of stuff justice in most cases (which puts me out of the game), unless we get really really good at getting in close. Just my .02.

Please don't take this as disparaging comments, just some thoughts. I took a look at your folders and you have some excellent shots in there. I particularly like this one. I will try to get back and look at some others of yours if I get a chance. Any constructive comments you might have on any of mine are appreciated.

Thanks for the input. I did do a good bit of ps work on this one. I mainly cloned out a bunch of distracting branches around the deer to try and make her stand out more. This was shot at 800 iso so it does have a bit more grain to it. I got this shot right at the edge of some woods right after sunset so I didn't have very good light to work with. I shot this at 125th of a second while hand holding a long 300mm lens so I was pleasantly suprised it turned out as sharp as it did.

It sure would be nice to have a 600mm lens. A used 300mm is all I can afford. Using on my digital body with the 1.5x crop factor, it's actually around 450mm, so that'll have to do for now.

Cheers!

Steve
