wogears 186 Posted September 22, 2005 I also think I prefer this one, but the differences are slight. There is more emphasis on the face here. Link to comment
Link to comment
ada-ipenburg 0 Posted September 22, 2005 Fairy tale for adults;~) Years on an end she could watch the people on the street from behind the window. And she saw many, many people because Greet lived in the centre of Amsterdam. In the opposite of the a bit shabby shop she worked was a very chic shop where they sold wedding dresses. Greet looked forwards to each first day of the new season because then the dresses of the mannequins got changed and that was a real happening; not only for Greet but also for the shopping public. Greet wasn't married and she didn't cherished a hope that she ever would find somebody on her way but she resigned to her fate. But? on a gloomy morning the landlord came in to tell that the premises where Greet passed her days should be sold. Greet lodged a protest against it, but the power of the strongest overcome and they turned Greet into the street, treated like dirt. Despite Greet was down and out she decided never say die but to let a secret desire come true. She always wanted to be a photo model. With all her strength she tried to reach the top but that wasn't an easy job. By pure chance an observant passenger came by and discovered the beautiful legs of Greet, which stuck out of a large grey container. In spite she had already lost her both hands and she was badly damaged at her elbows, as cautious as he could the kind man rescued her from her desperate position. He carried her to his van and drove her strait to his brother, who was a great photographer of nudes and other beautiful stuff. Finally Greet had reached her destination and the photographer had found the most willing and patient model he ever had worked with. Only for him she wrongs herself in the most strange and almost impracticable poses. They both enjoyed their good teamwork and the photographer gained credit by the portraits he made of her.Nevertheless Greet still had an unfulfilled wish; to be portrayed in a wedding dress. The sister of the photographer had also aspires to make pictures but all and above she possessed a wedding dress, an old one, it's true, but Greet is easily satisfied by nature. And there she is laying, in my bedroom, waiting for the man who is willing to bite his tooth to pieces on her. Ada;) Link to comment
ada-ipenburg 0 Posted September 22, 2005 I appreciate your comments very well and I'm glad you all like my attempt to create something which raises questions. The remark of Wim about the 'breedbeeld TV' (sorry, I don't know the English translation for it) makes me laugh very loud!:0))) Link to comment
wogears 186 Posted September 23, 2005 'Breedbeeld' in English is 'widescreen'. Careful, or you will run out of my 20 words of Dutch! Link to comment
randall paul 0 Posted September 23, 2005 Like the style and execution. Great mood and the tonal ranges suit me. Regards Randall Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted September 23, 2005 I like the vintage look of this perfectly arranged still life. I was very amused reading your short story above. It really looks like 4:3 (letterbox) TV-picture on a 16:9 (widescreen) TV-set. I`d prefer the other - previously - posted crop. Looks like a photographed oil painting (know it is not). Hope to see further shots of that very patient model ;-), Cheers, Edgar Link to comment
ada-ipenburg 0 Posted September 23, 2005 Well Les, your knowlegde of the Dutch language really surprizes me. I'm very curious to hear the other 19 words:-) Thank you! Hi Paul, great to hear you like my picture. I saw some of your work and now I understand that you like this kind of mood; I also recognize it in your pictures. Thank you very much for giving your opinion. Goodmorning Edgar, nice you drop by and enjoy my pictures aswell as the lifestory of Greet which isn't actually a fairy tale but the concrete reality. (Have you already seen Greet as glamourous model in Wim's work?) Well, now it's my turn to keep Greet busy (or she me). I hope she likes to stay with me for me while so I can hurle myself at her, metaphorically speaking! LOL Link to comment
someoneelse 1 Posted September 23, 2005 Ada, you're one off a kind, like your brother, ;D Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted September 23, 2005 Yes, I`ve allready seen his shot. Wasn`t aware this was a mannequin. Whom of you two must I ask to have it for a weekend??? ;-)Thanx for the inspiration. There is an idea crossing through my mind right now! Sunny Weekend, Edgar Link to comment
ada-ipenburg 0 Posted September 23, 2005 Glad you got it and great you like the joke! Since Greet is in our family we have a lot of fun with her and we use her for all kinds of cases. Our brother Sjaak did a great job to pick Greet up off the streets. After Wim has given free reign to his passions it's my turn to let myself go on her. The most funniest thing of the whole 'store mannequin project' is to discover how each individual person makes a complete different picture in mood, style etc. from the same object. I'm very curious to what kind of picture my granddaughter Flore (she is 10 and also on PN) will make from Greet:~) Link to comment
ada-ipenburg 0 Posted September 23, 2005 that is so nice to hear; Greet as your source of inspiration!:) I'm already looking forwards to your next picture. And what concerns Greet: she's a full member of our family and it's up to her if she wants to meet you Edgar. I will talk to her, OK? LOL Greetings from here and have a nice weekend too!:~) Link to comment
kim_tural 0 Posted September 24, 2005 This picture reminds me of the old movies except it's in colour. Very moody lighting you have created. Link to comment
paula grenside 0 Posted September 24, 2005 Ada, I prewfer this crop and love this image. Very melomoviedramatic, made me think of Marlene Dietrich for some reason. Love also the warm colors ( Rembrandt like) and the fatal glance in her eyes. Link to comment
glenn mellen 0 Posted September 24, 2005 Most of the descriptive terms I would've used has already been mentioned... The warm lighting is really imparts a mood exceptionally. It looks more a painting than a photograph. Wonderful style... wonderful image! Link to comment
ada-ipenburg 0 Posted September 26, 2005 I'm very happy with all the kind comments you've given to this picture. That the mood in this picture brings up memories to Marlene Dietrich and Rembrandt make me real feel proud. Thanks and greetings to all of you! Ada:) Link to comment
