Historical Notes:

Namafjall is a high-temperature geothermal area with fumaroles and mud pots. At a depth of 1000m, the temperature is above 200 degree on Celsius. Along with the steam comes fumarole gas, such as hydrogen sulfide which is responsible for the characteristic hot spring smell in these areas. The hot springs produce considerable sulphur deposits. In previous centuries sulphur was mined in Iceland to produce gun powder. Caution: Unsafe soil and high temperatures (80-100 degree on Celsius) ! Note to visitors: Please walk only on the paths and marked trails.

Historiche Daten:

Nice composition and the colors are beautiful. The clouds and colors on the ground add nice texture to the image. Very good capture.

Hi Baldur, beautiful, clean image..... I've missed you for a while. Welcome back!

By the way, I was in Yellowstone National Park a couple of weeks ago which is also a geothermal area with many geysers, hot springs, mud pots, etc. Please see my recent postings.....

Larus, Sarah, Thai, Tye, Igor L, Mari, Brad, Pnina, Juan R, Biliana, Martino, Darko, Gudmundur, Julio, Bartek B, Hung, Hector, Adolfo, Andrew, Paul, Aj, Fernando, for your constructive comments. It has been helpful and important to me these days to charge my battery again and I really appreciate your time. Also many thanks to all the people who has rated the image.

To Larus: That will be the day! To Tye: Glad to hear that. To Brad: Glad you think so. I will do that with a pleasure. To Pnina: Namafjall is not "Gate to Hell" I think it is the volcano Hekla (http://www.os.is/~ah/hekla/hekla_ensk.html). To Gudmundur: Special thanks! However, my next shot will not be from the wide angle. It is one of few shots which I have made with the 85mm lens and the title of it will be "Blackbird"

Best regards to all of you, Baldur

Good to see you posting again on PN! I like the use of the people to help the sense of space though your clouds do a good job there too.
