johncrosley 0 Posted September 20, 2005 'Red, Blue, White and Black' is a 'street photo'. Can you figure out the title without too much work? That being accomplished, tell me what you think of the photograph; your ratings and critiques are invited and most welcome. (If you rate harshly or very critically, please submit a helpful and contructive comment/Please share your superior knowledge to help improve my photography.) Thanks. Enjoy. John Link to comment
jshaw.photo 0 Posted September 20, 2005 I like the grainy-ness of this. It adds to the photo. Link to comment
johncrosley 0 Posted September 20, 2005 Thanks for the comment; I had misidentified this originally has having come from my D70 but it was from one of my F5s with an 80~200 f 2.8, one very powerful lens. You can't believe how I had to stalk this very skittish street vendor to create this juxtaposition . . . . you'd think he was a felon breaking parole or on the lam or something . . .so skittish was he, but I'm sure he just thinks I'm an insurance adjuster . . . or maybe a stalker. ;-) John Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted September 20, 2005 How far away were you when you took this shot John? I really want to have a go at doing some street work, there are some very colourful characters in my area, but I'm still a little bit nervous about it. I need to think up some good anti beating lines to fend off any less than happy subjects I shoot. Link to comment
johncrosley 0 Posted September 21, 2005 Ben, Good choice of photos to ask a about. I had several cameras around my neck, with just a few hour in New York City and intentions of taking 'street' photos, and some were extremely shy of my gigantic equipment -- here Nikon F5 with giant 80~200 mm f 2.8 lens, and this guy in particular who acted extremely skittish. I went far away and pointed my camera and lense from an intersection in different directions, up Park Avenue, instead of down the side street he worked, until he wasn't looking, then switched directions when he was less aware. Distance (and his need to be near his merchandise) was my savior, together with a giant telephoto lens. Sometimes a telephoto is necessary. I suggest you read the comments under my portfolio for the many 'guises' and remarks one can make to safeguard oneself when taking 'street' photos, such a 'I'm focusing my camera' (always true), 'I'm framing a scene in my mind' (also always true), to 'I'm just trying out how things look through my new camera (lens)' etc., (often true). Get the point? Go read those comments, they're rich for guys like you and with (potential) street shooters like you in mind. Regards, John Link to comment
