randall ellis 2 Posted September 19, 2005 Of the two, this one seems more dynamic. There is more depth and better balance. I like that the most distant mountain can be seen faintly between the two main boulders and the level of detail you have in the foreground. Nice work. - Randy Link to comment
sef1664877429 0 Posted September 20, 2005 First, I absolutely love the atmosphere in these, and like the above, I found this one to be the most immediate... but I'm not convinced by my initial impressions. As before, sorry for drawing all over the thing, but makes it easier to explain what I like. One of the most interesting things here is the pattern of small rocks at the bottom corner, and their various directions. The central vertical and those three diagonals crossing it seem to be an anchor for the rest of the photo, and I'm wondering if a slight right crop would be better, taking the anchor closer to the center(but not completely). A lot of the lines here seem to be pulling the subject matter towards the foggy space inside the V, which I like the idea of, the subject being the negative space instead of the rock. But the V is also pushing some of the attention back down to the ground, and the spread of lines and shapes seems to balance out nicely. Anyway, that's what I'm thinking about this one. pnital 36 Posted September 21, 2005 David, for me that one is the favorite, because of the richness of texture, especially the triangle between the two rocks that is the center of the group and lighter in color, what keeps my eye there to explor the details. The juncture of the 3 parts( 2 brown rocks and triangle)leads the eye to what is behind them ,the fog and a hint of a continuing landscape.Interesting for me. Pnina Link to comment
david robinson 0 Posted September 25, 2005 Randall, I agree with you about the details in this foreground -- they really help this image. Stephen, I too think this one is the most easily accessible of the three. Your examination of the composition here helped me to see it even better. And Pnina yes the vividness of these textures as compared to the muted background makes for an interesting contrast. Link to comment
colin carron 58,916 Posted September 28, 2005 I'm with Pnina, this is my favourite of this series, a feeling of earth and sky all dripping with mist, sharing space and time. Link to comment
david robinson 0 Posted October 2, 2005 Thanks Colin -- you're in good company here with Pnina. The mist is something both of us cherish -- good thing to our living where we do... Link to comment
