Scientists call them Trachypithecus phayrei. These small and agile

langurs got the name Spectacle Monkey or ?Chashma Bandar? for their

striking feature?white rings encircling the eyes giving them an

appearance of being bespectacled. Population of them are decreasing

steadily. Normaly they are found in 3 states of North-east India viz

Tripura, Assam and Mizoram.

... Partha, a diificult job well done ! I have tried it and so I know you had to work hard (alongwith some luck) to get a shot like this ! I just wish you had the full figure ! I like the blurred background ! Looks like he was posing for you !

I am just curious, do you remember at what setting (focal length) you did set your 70-300mm? I am trying to learn so that i can do a better job when I try the same next time !

Congrats for a nice capture and thanks for the good info. Isn't it an endangered species ? Found only in that part of the whole world ?

Some more about the Spectacle Monkey, this is a male one. The difference is very interesting the white patch around the eye (we can say the 'Spectacle') is different in male and in female. The patch is almost circular or elliptical in the case of male while it is almost triangular or cone shaped in the case of female. I am attaching a photograph of female Spectacle Monkey for the curious, although the picture is not so good but the difference is very much clear. You can notice the size of the nipples is larger in the case of female.

I used my 75-300 mm lens in 300 mm and as I used my Canon Digital Rebel XT camera it multiplies 1.6 times so effective focal length was 480 mm. The other details are Tv-1/50, Av-5.6 and ISO-100.

The Spectacle Monkeys are in threat; its population is decreasing steadily, they are found only in this part of the world and the numbers are around thousand in the world, steps are being taken to preserve the species.

I hope in future they will not be available only in photographs or in memories.
