johncrosley 0 Posted September 7, 2005 This is 'Bessie' and her spouse whose inherited collection of worthless cameras I inspected (and delivered the unhappy news). I got the opportunity to take photos of her and her husband -- a couple very much 'in love' despite their old age and his cancer (he's 83). Your rating and critiques are invited and most welcome. (If you rate harshly or very negatively, please submit a helpful and constructive comment/Please share your superior knowledge to help improve my photography). (Mixed lighting sources have altered the colors -- daylight and artificial from a fixture and window, right, and afternoon sunlight through a window, sidelight, left. Colors unmanipulated -- if you can 'improve' them, please feel free to have a whack at it.) Thanks! Enjoy! John Link to comment
johncrosley 0 Posted September 8, 2005 This is a wonderful job -- too bad you started with the medium size version. I had intended to desaturate it, and work it up also, but unlike the previous photo in this folder, I wanted to show the interesting colors. More and more, I have found that when colors are from 'mixed' lighting sources, as here, and have strong effects on the color rendition, a conversion to B&W is sometimes the best move, so there is no detraction -- distraction, from the point of the photo. However, these folks surely are in love, and it does show in their faces and eyes, doesn't it, color or B&W? Nice job. John Link to comment
hugo poon 0 Posted September 9, 2005 B&W may be too cool; color a bit distracting. What about sepia which might add to the warm feeling of this sweet and lovely image? Best regards, Hugo Link to comment
johncrosley 0 Posted September 10, 2005 This is the most difficult lighting, being taken in an outbuilding -- a converted garage with a little bit of overhead light to the side and a lot of side lighting from sun one way and more bluish light the other way -- most difficult and almost impossible to capture the color correctly. And B & W is one way to go. I have an almost gut dislike for sepia, but maybe in this instance that will be the way to go for this particular one. I'll have to digest that, given my predelictions. I never say never. They sure look like they like each other, don't they? They got the golden ring, something that all couples grab for and hope they can get, but few attain. I hope I captured it well. Regards, John Link to comment
gib 0 Posted October 2, 2005 it seems to me that getting one good portrait is hard enough, here you have two very good portraits caught in one shot, each is very good, together they add up to a great deal more Link to comment
johncrosley 0 Posted October 2, 2005 I think, WJ, what I caught here, was the casual 'love' for which this couple felt for each other. Nothing less. It made it relatively easy. John Link to comment
johncrosley 0 Posted October 23, 2005 Yes, Joan, it's clear -- they are still a little 'frisky' in their affection for each other, and it appears, doesn't it? I'm glad it is so apparent to you and others as it was to me. John Link to comment
