Shot at long distance with 50-500mm lens

Hi Alec, I'm surprise that you brought this monster lens with you to Bali. I had this lens once... tends to be slow in locking onto the subject in low lights other than this, still a great lens to have as can be seen by this shot.

Bali is and will be a photographer's paradise and you must had enjoyed yourself there. Looking forward to seeing your more of your pics from that wonderful place.

Beng Chye, I knew it's going to be low lighting at the Barong show so I took the lens and tripod with me. At ISO 1600 the image turn out decent with a little help from Noise Ninja2. Otherwise it'll look like a snapshot.

 

Perhaps you have the non digital version as the Sigma 50-500mm DG is recently introduced and I got it from HK as Singapore has only the older version. Did a lot of test and research before getting it. Very pleased with the results. Lovely DOF for portraiture.

Alec, I really like the new collection of Balinese performers and your Bali images in general. The colours are rather magnificent. The expression and timing are right on.

 

The expression doesn't strike me as laughter so much as something more intense. Not that laughter can't be intense or meaningful. However you were there and know what he was doing.

Right Amar. The Ramayana classics the group performed was very elaborate and the songs were mesmerising with the musical harmony from the gamelan orchestra.

I would love to see them in action as well. BTW did you mean Ramayana?
