sondra kick 0 Posted September 2, 2005 The bridge is the world's largest steel span and the second highest bridge in the United States. All comments are welcome. Cheers, Sondra Link to comment
sondra kick 0 Posted September 2, 2005 Yes, I am pretty sure its the same New River. The photo was taken in the southeastern part of West Virginia. Cheers, Sondra Link to comment
phyrpowr 0 Posted September 2, 2005 I know it well. The New River rises near Boone, NC, then flows north, very unusual for this part of the world. Also, the "New" is one of the oldest rivers in the world Great composition and mood, B&W fits nicely Link to comment
joelle1 0 Posted September 2, 2005 I love the composition on this one. The bridge looks magestic. Link to comment

jana 1 Posted September 2, 2005 Sondra, Nice catch the mist and the bridge.. jana (I think B&W is a good choice here) Link to comment
colin carron 58,916 Posted September 4, 2005 Superb shot, Sondra! Gorge bridges are always dramatic and the mist adds to the atmosphere. I believe there is now a Chinese steel arch with a slightly longer span but at over 500m it is still a most impressive sructure. The biggest arch I was ever involved with was only 165m . ed_gerson 0 Posted September 13, 2006 You have a very disciplined eye. Each image has something to admire. This portfolio is one of your best teaching efforts, you really should have this stuff in a book, it's all consistently good photography. - Ed Link to comment
mary_jackson1 0 Posted September 19, 2006 My grantparents lived 7 miles from this bridge and my parents presently live about 10 miles.. The New River is indeed beautiful and the bridge is amazing. I remember during construction that my grandfather went out every day and took a picture of the bridge from the same spot. When he died, my uncle took the pictures and then he died and no one knows where they are. I have spent many hours at this place and seen it in all kinds of weather and you have captured the best of them in this photo. I, too, agree that the B&W was the perfect choice. A little side note: the rafting in the New River is some of the best white water around. I am not a rafter but my kids are and they loved it! The rapids you have in this photo are one of the Class 5's--much more intense than they look here! Link to comment
