This is Cooper, 3 mos. This was an experiement in controlled over-

exposure. Lighting at f32, shot at F8. Comments & critiques welcome.

Thanks.

Hi M- I did this using 2 large softboxes set at a 45 degree angle, approx. 3 feet away from Cooper. I had 2 background lights set at full on a white paper background. The softboxes were at 3/4 strength. When I metered it it was F32 @ 1/125. I shot it at F8. I also shot this in the RAW setting. Once I transfered it to the computer I under exposed it about 1 stop. It darkens the eyes and makes it look almost like a pencil drawing. Really interesting experiment. His mother was holding him on her lap, she had a white shirt on. She was blown out, but Cooper remained. Lots of fun playing with different lighting settings. Obviously, someone doesn't like it with a rating of 2/3 :) That's OK. I was trying for the old white on white's they use to shoot back when I was just a baby, the early 50's. Next time I'm going to decrease the light on the left and get a little shadow effect.:)

Jayme, terrific high-key look with pencil drawing-like effect. See, nothing wrong with 2 reflections in the eyes at all! ^_^

Thanks Wilson- I needed those 2 softboxes to accomplish the controlled over-exposure. Interesting concept. Glad I grabbed the old book and looked at it.

Thanks Tina

Thanks Ken. I have an old photo of my husband at about this age that I have been using to model my final results after. This comes very close. The light sepia one is even closer. (The yellowing may just be from age, heck, it's 54 years old) But it's printed on flat art paper, similar to the Velvet Art paper used today. The matting on the image has a leather like texture that is slightly off white. Then framed in a silver leafed frame. His Mom had all 5 of her kids pictures done at the same age. She always had them hung over the head of her bed. When she died, I latched on to my husband's picture for our children. It's adorable. I wish I had done it of our 2 children. I will be doing it of Tyson & Ely. A little late for Jake & Ethan, but I plan on doing them anyway. I believe I may even hang them all over my bed :) How funny! I've heard it said that as you get older, you get more like your parents, but I've never heard of becoming more like your in-laws! :) I could be in trouble!:)

Thanks Bob- short & sweet! :)

I also will have to learn to be a liitle shorter, I fell yesterday,(my middle name should be Lack-o-grace) and fractured both bones in my right forearm. :) What fun the next 8 weeks will bring. Good thing I've always used my left hand quite a bit, so I'm not as disabled as some might be. But, fancy writing is definatly out. My eye doctor has always told me, according to my eye dominance, I should have been left handed ;) Now I'll be forced to see just how right he is!

Back in the 50's, most school teachers encouraged everyone to be right handed, I guess I listened :) Must have been the first & only time!

Thanks Ken. I am hoping so. Outpatient surgery for manipulation & recasting today. Holiday weekends are a real bummer. I'm just so angry at myself & disgusted at the same time. The pain is unGodly! Especially when it swells. 8 weeks in a cast will be pure Hell for me. Learning how to do most everything left handed, even cut up some meat yesterday, slow but sure:)

Jayme, Almost perfect! The only thing that I'd change is to move your signature to the bottom right or into the frame. It does distract from your art IMHO.

Sorry to read about your arm. Hope it heals without need for hours of physio.

Look at this, broken arm and still up and at it, typing, learning, doing...good on ya for sure !

Love the softness in this, and not sure why this one, perhaps because of the pureness of B&W...

Thanks Roger, but the arm has stopped me for a little while. I have a 5lb hand grip on the right! Yeow! 60lb on the left!!! So..... the camera is just a little heavy at this point, thinking of getting my old Fuji 3mp out and just playing. The physical therapist did give me some hand strengthing exersizes which I am doing religiously. My husband calls them "Chuckie" maneuvers :) I do them with a small hammer:)

This cold snap had made my wrist very stiff. Plus we are in the middle of a major exterior remodel on our house. So my day is pretty full of construction questions. I was able to replace a damaged picket on our fence, all by myself (the hammer maneuver must be working) :) Thanks for visiting!

Great catchlight in the eyes and expression. I like the high key lighting, may be tad bit more contrast but great shot Jayme.

Thanks Javed. You are probably right about the contrast. It needs a few other things too. Because of my hand situation, I have not been able to work on the large files. It needs a little space at the top too. :) Thanks for looking.
