Exposure was 2 seconds at f22. Lee 0.9 Hard ND Grad filter aligned on horizon. Gitzo 1325/Acratech ball head. Levels adjusted in Ektaspace. I feel that this looks best viewed LARGER and Full Screen (F11). Thank you.

Well, that is actually a large sailboat out there; it looked like

about a 40 foot ketch to me. But it's so damn small I was thinking of

editing it out. I am open for your thoughts on that and anything else

regarding this photograph. Thanks.

Thanks Enrique! The color is Velvia 50, in my opinion the greatest film ever made. Too bad Fuji has discontinued it. Regards.

I am tired of many typical 'red' sunset work of this site but not this one. The technique is first rate, from composition to execution. The impact is very strong with great depth. The best thing I like the most: It is so natural and I don't feel this has been manipulated by PS in any way. Well-done very nice work and surely one of top landscape on everyday TRP from my personal view.

Walter: This really captures the warmth of the sunset in a way that makes an often photographed object (the sunset) seem new again. Great depth of field, well done.

The larger version even looks better. The distant object really caught my attension and I think it is very nice touch.

Keep the boat - keep everything! You know what makes this for me? The little cyan crests in the foreground. Great exposure, great image. Have you tried Velvia 100?

Excellent execution Walter, I like every element in here, the foregrnd rocks and their irridescence, the rippled sea, the sky with beautifull cloud scenery with half sun occulted, great, the ketch doesnt really bothers, if you clone it I would also clone the little spots (looks like fishing boats or something) in horizon, nice scene once again!, regards, Rafael

Walt

I see you took this last Monday. I believe that was after the heat wave broke and there was no humidity. I was coming to work and thought I should have brought my camera. The skyline of downtown was super clear and the lake looked really blue that day. Did you take this off of 72nd street (Gordon Park) on the break wall? I really like the color tone of this. The blues mixing with the red. As to the sailboat one can not really tell what it is so perhaps you could PS it out but I don't think you really need to. I think you have to make that call. So I guess I gave you a non answer.

Nice one

Jim

Hi Jim. It may or may not have been Monday when I shot this; the days are all just sort of running together as of late. Thanks for the comments.

Regards to all.

The boat is strongly there and makes the shot for me: by all means keep it and keep it the title (OK, I'm sort of used to search the horizon for boats, so it jumps at my eyes) !

I also like a lot three details: the reflex off the foreground stone, warm, off a cold body; the blue light "trapped" into the small waves; the way the shadow of the clouds divides the sky in roughly half.

All in all, I think this is a very nicely crafted sunset shot!

Mahalo nui loa buddy! When I look at this photograph I am reminded somewhat of a beach just west of Poi Pu. When you get right down to it, the only thing this scene lacks are swaying palm trees, gentle Trade Winds, pristine ocean water, carefree lifestyles, and infinte happiness in paradise. Regards.

Walter, this absolutely reminds me of Poipu. Very Hawaiian in my mind. Perhaps that means you need another trip this way in January or February... when it's real cold in Ohio. I believe the temp on Kauai in January is like 79 with light trades...

Aloha.
