A view in the historic centre of Middelburg (The Netherlands)

named 'Kuiperspoort'. The building and gate date from 1586. Since

1642 the coopersguild was housed in it. De Kuiperspoort be made up of

picturesque alley passages with restored storehouses, step-roofed

houses and beautiful hidden views.

Do you like my version of it? I appreciate your constructive

critiques and advices.

Thank you!

This looks very similar to the architecture I have seen in Brugge, Belgium. I like the geometry of your composition very much. It is interesting the way you have used selective de-saturation to emphasize the building structure. I am guessing you are going for a hand colored look. It does affect the balance or visual weight of the photograph and serves to focus the viewers attention on the architecture. I suppose that makes it a bit more original than what I might have done. I think the effect is pretty pleasing for the most part.

Ada, good angle of the house architecture. The sky are a bit washed out, I wish them to be darker in order to have more unity. I like the color tones of it and History is always an added value. Pnina

Hallo Ada.

What a nice image you made of this place.

Great eye for composition!

Maybe the leaf has to be a bit more green imo.

Hi Hillary, you've made me a great compliment. I've watched your work and I've seen that I can learn a lot from you:)

Thank you Javi for taking the time to look at my picture and to give me your opinion.

Hi Dennis, nice you drop by and thank you for your kind words. You're right with your remark about the similar architecture. Middelburg is situated in the southwest of The Netherlands and in a distance of only 50 kilometers from Brugge. In the past both cities were very brisk and famous trade centres.

You are also right when you mentioned that I have done an attempt to give extra attention to the specific points in the buildings style. I've noticed that if you don't work up this kind of shots, many people only see it as an ordinary postcard and it's my opinion that historical juwels like this deserve more than that designation.

Pnina, thank you very much for your opinion. I think you're right about the sky. I will try to restore it:)

Thank you for the great compliment Wim. We would form a great couple with regard to photography, I think. I show you the places and the rest is up to you;~) LOL

Hello Michael, nice to see you! I'm glad you like my picture. Greetings, Ada:)

And how many people today know what a cooper was? (Yes, we do.)

Good angle, fascinating brickwork. I might go all the way to B/W, and I would probably straighten the buildings.

Thank you both for commenting my picture. I'm glad you like it. Concern the sky, I show you the original picture to give you an impression of the natural look of it.

Hi Ada, nice you show also the original, it is good to compare, you did a GREAT job, changing it.

Gewoon mooi resultaat het weglaten van de kleuren, blauwe lucht hoort er inderdaad niet bij, maar ja zo bekijk ik het, groetjes en meer

Amazing place the Coopers Ada. You have done a wonderful job presenting it here. Great angle to take the shot from. I agree with Wim a hair less sky and more tree would have helped but the building stands out beautifully. What stories this place must hold after all those years. It really is one of those shots you can't help but play around with :). A slightly darker take on the two you present. Good to see you, Cheers Nova ;)

Hi Nova, thank you for your positive comment and special thanks for your impressive contribution. I like your version too. It radiates a complete different sphere as mine, very moody, a bit ominous and it carries me back to the age of 1600-1700 when places like this were not illuminated by night.

I have took some more shots in this area but it was not such an easy job because of the narrow streets with their high houses and a lack of daylight. I'll try to manipulate them, because the architecture is worth to be seen. It's nice to see you Nova, Cheers, Ada:)

Sounds like an awesome place for photo's Ada. You might have to approach it a little differently. Bet there lots of great textures to be had ;) Looking forward to more ~ Cheers Nova :)

PS> Nice one, some... :)

You've really made a very particular version of my Kuiperspoort. I really like to see how other people play around with the same shots and each time I'm amazed/surprized through the totally different outcomes. I like the little red touches you've add to the composition and of course your frame. You've made a beautiful little painting of it.

P.S. Nog bedankt ook Els voor je lieve kritiek, die had ik gewoonweg over het hoofd gezien door de imposante bewerking van Nova die al mijn aandacht trok. Excuses daarvoor, ik zal het nooit meer doen!:)

Very good work from the original. This loaded version shows so much more details of the building against a great sky. Tones, brightness & contrast are just nice. Well done.

Ada, nice to see the original that you worked from. Beautiful image, nice work. I left you the original on my work of Sherwood Forest Plantation. Cheers, Sondra

Hello Sondra, I'm glad you like my attempt to make something different from the original picture. I think an IR lens would save me a lot of work:). I going to take a look at your original Sondra, I'm very curious.

I really thought you fooled me when you said that you would straighten the buildings because the houses here, for the most part more than 400 years old, are all leaning and settled. So what is really straight here? I give you an example of a shot I made in a distance of 200 metres from this place. I'll upload the picture, special for you:~)in a very large size for a real good view.

At any rate thank you for the time and effort you took to show me that you were very serious. I appreciate it very much! Ada:)
