daryl walter 0 Posted August 26, 2005 I tried to maximise the dynamic range of this image by superimposing multiple RAW exposures. There are still some small areas of burned out highlights and black shadows but on the whole I'm pretty happy with the outcome. I was quite taken by the composition of this one. I'd be interested to hear your thoughts. Link to comment
joelle1 0 Posted August 26, 2005 Does WOW classify as a critique? Cause it's absolutely amazing. I love it. Link to comment
carlos miguez 0 Posted August 26, 2005 A great achievement. Magisterial. Absolutely: very, very nice. Link to comment
dominiquedodge 0 Posted August 26, 2005 I like the way it seems to be more tunnel than canyon (that's what I find original here). I would go the whole way and emphasise that even more by cropping off the top zone of light (above where the pointed rock juts out). For me that would give a more enigmatic feeling and stronger composition. Link to comment
dguindon 0 Posted August 26, 2005 Clearly shows great timing, nice contrast between colours emphisizing that beautiful s-curve also. Good job Daryl Link to comment

daryl walter 0 Posted August 28, 2005 Judging by the response so far it seems that I'm not the only one who liked this shot :) Thanks to all of you who took the time to comment, it is very much appreciated. Dominique, I messed around with your ideas for a crop and I can see why one might like that but I think it changes things too much. I like the S-shape (as Don noted) as it gives the composition that sort of harmony/tension that you get in the yin/yang symbol and other similar types of iconography. Not that I thought of that at the time! Link to comment
dominiquedodge 0 Posted August 28, 2005 Daryl: if you like S curves and yin-yang you might be interested in looking at this S folder by Picture This. I'm a member, but I won't tell you which picture(s) are mine! happy viewing. Link to comment
fotoslim 0 Posted August 28, 2005 Very good composition of light and color. Best regards Link to comment
LenMarriott 9 Posted August 28, 2005 Daryl, Though either version is visually stunning I must agree with Dominique on the suggestion to crop out the top above the pointed rock. With the suggested crop one's eye doesn't tend to wander out the top of the image thus becoming what Michael Seewald would refer to as a 'circular' composition, a composition that keeps the eye moving around in a circular motion. That said, either version could hang on my wall. Best, LM. Link to comment
daryl walter 0 Posted August 29, 2005 Dominique, you're not the first person to mention 'Picture This' in the last week or so and I must admit it does look like an interesting aspect of photo.net (I've been having a look around and I'll have a look at the S-curves.) Len, thanks for your comments. I'm still going to disagree with the crop suggestion but I respect your opinion and appreciate the input (I'm just choosing to ignore it this time around :) ). What I may do is see if I can darken the light patch at the top of the picture as I think this may have a similar effect. I must admit my ideal picture would have had the outcrop on the left a little more rounded and less like a profile of batman but you can't always get nature to cooperate. (Hadn't come across Michael Seewald before so have just looked him up on google and will be checking out his pics when my modem decides to cooperate a little better - thx) Link to comment
cherlyn 1 Posted August 30, 2005 Excellent work. The canyon's rich colours & textures stand out so well against the dark. Tunnel of canyon, this is a great picture. Link to comment
jnicholson 0 Posted September 3, 2005 Really spectacular, Daryl. Love the multiple exposure idea. Pardon my ignorance is this a lateral view or are we looking up. SSSSuper SSShot! Link to comment
