Yeah. I don't read, speak, write or know any French at all. But I have a feeling I might come close at translating this graffiti.

I think it may give more impact if you used a wide angle shooting on the left lower side. That strip of mountain, almost like a "merger" in photo composition, should be avoided, imho.

I don't speak French either, but I guess it means "down with (or say no to) TGV and Fascism". Interesting parallel -- back then fascists did make trains run on time. Did you take TGV?

That's exactly what I figured that it meant. And, no, I didn't take the TGV, but I did take the EuroStar through the Channel Tunnel. Thanks for the idea about the wide-angle position and the mountain ... gives me some things to think about!

Lou, I agree with Ray as to the wide angle, it's a definite NO to the TGV. Was the sign made of wood or concrete?

Hi Lou Ann...I agree with Ray on the wide angle...and yet it can be a challenge to think of technical aspects when trying to capture a photo journalistic moment....

Okay, very wired indeed. I don't see graffiti, I see a message in another language. Interesting that you even made the shot!

to call the community "fascistoid" when the High-Speed Train, necessary and admired, with no alternative concerning speed and environment is planned just in front of my door.

RE - I'm with you ... it IS interesting that we all love things with power and speed and new technologies, but not if they interrupt our lives. For example, who wants a power plant in their neighborhood? But how many of us want to live without electricity. Hmmm...

There are English versions of these here in the UK where the line is being extended to London. It must be galling for the folk who live in rural peace who then have mighty metal monsters roaring past their front doors. In UK the people who are complaining are those who are close enough for their property prices to be reduced but not close enough to get compensation. Grrrr!

Interesting shot, but I also agree with Ray about the wide angle and leaving out the mountain.

Interesting shot! (I'm french).

I'm not faschist (CERTAINLY NOT!) and I never traveled by TGV (I have a 2CV! LOL).

What can I say about this? TGV is the fastest kind of train and faschist is the lowest kind of mind.

First people wrote "non au TGV" because of ecologic feelings. Other people wrote "et au faschisme" after (it isn't the same writing) because of clearness.

Lastly, some people try to draw an horizontal line : ))

Wow, Yann ... I didn't even see that until you pointed it out (about the two different writings). Thanks. I am happy to get input on this from a Frenchman! :-)

Believe me, most of the people here WANT the TGV ...

Except land-owners where the new railway is being built.

I don't understand the association of TGV and fascism ? Someone must either explain me, or this guy who wrote this ... or maybe just a revolted youngster ?

BTW, I have a nuclear plant in my neighborhood, and a highway, and ... that's clear, I cannot avoid the counterparts of civilisation ... except in exceptionnal natural sites (parcs naturels, etc)
