I've had a hard time with this photo. I can't figure out what is

missing. I don't like it in Black and White it seems too busy and In

color doesn't seem drmatic enough.

Suggestions would be welcome and helpful!

It's not that bad at all.

I have been lucky to shoot on more than one occasion skate-boarding kids so far. (Although unpublished)

First i'd suggest that you always stick to the ground (sit or lie down) when shooting, this way you can dramatise the jumps that will seem higher and more dynamic. Second: always use the widest aperture possible to blur the background.....emphazising the skater.

Third: keep on trying...

You've got a nice photo, from a general photography standpoint. From a skateboard photography standpoint, here are a couple of suggestions - don't crop the photo so close to the skater, especially the part he's skating on - the rail. You want to see what he's doing, how high the rail is, how many stairs there are, etc. If you want to really start taking skate photos, get a fish-eye lense and get close to the action. Hope that helps.

Thank you both so much for the suggestions. Wheather to crop the railing and the stairs off to foucus on the skater or leave the railings and stairs to show the acomplishment..was a HUGE dilima for me! Thanks for giving me your insight. I will also remember to sit down next time! I guess there were very valid reasons for me being so stuck on this shot! LOL

The background is very effective in this shot. It expresses the metal / cement playground well.
