flynn 4 Posted August 23, 2005 Yes, in "Details" you can see all filters... Thanks for comment. Link to comment
arnabbanerjee 0 Posted August 23, 2005 Sharp and clear photo, but to provide some constructive criticism - I found that the composition is a bit weak - keeping that sign right in the middle does not create a lot of interest - may be good from a documentary perspective to show how much the glacier receded - but not sure from a composition perspective. Also, looks like that it is taken in mid-day - so light is contrasty and not dramatic at all. You may want to try at a different time of the day. Hope this helps Link to comment
eric rose 0 Posted August 23, 2005 Actually I found it quite strong. My first reaction was holy sh*t has that glacier receded a lot! I think that was the intent of the photo. Link to comment
mark_lindamood 0 Posted August 26, 2005 the sign dead center is what made me click the thumbnail have a look -- it's like a label on an exhibit, which is exactly what this documentary photo is, an exhibit of a changed landscape. the good work here is the careful placement of the sign, and the use of the polarizer and neutral grad filters to make a documentary photo as eye-popping as possible. ghuczek 0 Posted August 26, 2005 I haven't rated this, but I'm glad I read the other critiques. I would not have understood that the sign indicated the leading edge of the glacier in 1982. If this were stated in a caption, as in a magazine article, then the point of the photo would have been clearer to me. When I first looked at this, I thought the sign meant that the peak was first scaled in 1982. Link to comment
flynn 4 Posted August 27, 2005 Thank you Mark, you really named the meaning of my picture "an exhibit of a changed landscape". The Athabasca Glacier is shrinking very fast and this year signs are dated somewhere from 1920ties up to date. 1982 was most shootable for me and composition is really kind of centre formatted. But rules are breakable and this time center position is working for me. The ridge is entering the landscape creating depth in the photograph space and the 1982 sign is like sad reminder on its side. This location is really spectacular and combination of snow, glacier and dramatic clouds in the sky is my most adventurous shooting experience. Thanks for all comments. Link to comment

salvatore.mele 1 Posted August 30, 2005 I like the way the sign is dead center. And the way its red and yellow are screaming at us in a scene of grays, blues and whites. This bring across in a strong and truly effective way the main message of the world-wide incumbent disaster of glacier recession, a theme very dear to me. Really well done! Link to comment
flynn 4 Posted August 30, 2005 Thank you Salvatore. Glaciers are very important to me as well. They keep us cool, you know what I mean. Link to comment
