pjmeade 12 Posted August 23, 2005 I thought this crop might emphasise the craggy face and the length of the cigarette. Could I have produced a better framing? What do you think? Link to comment
pjmeade 12 Posted August 23, 2005 Thanks for looking. Here is the one good shot I took in profile. I don't often shoot street shots, so I feel a bit uneasy standing there blasting away, especially with a noisy camera with a big lens. Would you have treated it any different? Cheers. sef1664877429 0 Posted August 23, 2005 Good crop, but wonder if getting rid of the ear would make it better? Its a shame there wasn't smoke coming from the cigarette, would have made more sense in that position. Unlit, a more 'limp' position would have been better. Shame about the highlights, too, but maybe not much that could have been done about that. Blue channel works well for B&W conversions of wrinkly skin, playing about with unsharp mask can also help, but easy to take it too far. Well seen, right idea. Attachtment info: channel mixer as an adjustment layer in overlay blend mode, 70% opacity( visibility), Green(30) Blue(70), merge layers, a little toning, reduced highlights on cigarette. Mmm, can't quite decide on cropping the ear out? Link to comment
pjmeade 12 Posted August 23, 2005 I had thought of BW. Possibly an even more severe crop? Do you think this works? I also think you BW is much better than mine. Clearly some learning to do there. Link to comment
sef1664877429 0 Posted August 23, 2005 Actually, you could trying experimenting with cropping the top, that will help keep the length of the photo, which seems important here. Link to comment
sef1664877429 0 Posted August 23, 2005 Doh! Posting at the same time. Yep, but I don't think I'd get rid of the chin. Link to comment
pturton 10 Posted August 24, 2005 Hi Pete, My preference is the 'attitude' crop with maybe slightly less contrast/sharpness of this compressed image. This certainly shows the attitude of many smokers. Good work. Link to comment
graham boyd 0 Posted August 24, 2005 Your original color posting, cropped, with the ear, is still very good. The BW ones work also, especially the attitude one. Shows how one picture can contain many more. In some ways I favor the color here, as BW might be a more common choice for this subject, so the color gives us something new and defintitely provides a better sense of who this guy really is.
