c brake 0 Posted August 19, 2005 Tonal range is pretty good, just a little too much contrast for me. Great texture. Link to comment

jerry ting 1 Posted August 19, 2005 for stopping by. I personally think the composition is a bit too tight and I agree with Mr. Brake's comment about the contrast. Deatils are lost on the top left dark area. B&W image is really the area that I try to improve. Thanks again for all inputs. Link to comment

Wayne Melia 6,037 Posted August 20, 2005 I like the photo and disagree with previous cricisms of tonal range. The contrast emphasises the fissures in the wood which provide the graphic hook. Less contrast would lose the highlight/midtone variations which give shape to the foreground undulations. Details in upper left background are expendable - especially for the gains. Having some good black is a good base for the rest of the tones to to stand on, IMO. Strokes for folks, I guess, there probably is no "right" choice, just whatever suits your goal. raywei 0 Posted October 6, 2005 Like it a lot. The way a b/w photo meant to be. Regards. Link to comment
