You always do a great job with dark space, Walter. That's what makes this shot. Very elegant. Cheers.

Ditto all of the above! This is wonderful! Not only is the dark space great, and not only is the flower wonderful with great detail ... but I LOVE the background, too! Great work!

The photo is elegant work and like many things here. Talking about the weakness, I feel a little empty on the leftwide from the view of composition. Very nice work.

Walter - For me there's too much going on the right and top-right. I prefer your more simple comps for effectiveness. Maybe just the base, vase, and flower, but what do I know? Cheers - Bryan.

Walter, for the most part, I really like the delicate subject and how you've rendered it. This is a very attractive shot. While I think this works, this isn't how I'd have framed this (flower at the near center of the frame). Did you shoot other compositions? I tried cropping this some, but can't say that helped.

I've come back to this after a break and I think I understand why this works. Obviously, color, light, and subject. But what makes this almost still life dynamic is how you've placed the flower right on the edge of darkness, just where the corner of the table juts into the black void. The bloom almost functions as a beacon in the night, beckoning . . . Ok, that's my flowery prose interpretation of this. Good shot!

I am appreciating the comments on this a lot. Still Life is not the genre that I am most familiar with and I need help with composition. I made a total of around 20 exposures on this subject, more for the experience in using bounce flash and multiple flashes.

Personally, I like the negative space on the left but I would like to have some hint of the drapery in that area. Overall, I am not entirely satisfied with how the drapery is being rendered; I would have liked it to have more of a flow and folding back upon itself. Other than that I think this is a work of true genius ;o) Regards to all!

Walter, I too like the negative space on the left. The drape is perfect to accent, but not overwhelm the main subject. You alway do wonderful work. Cheers, Sondra

This is quite interesting I also shot a lily still life and this out shines mine. I like your chose of colors, black space and cropping. It very original to say the lease, I like it. BTW are those ties?

Ha! I thought they looked like old neckties too...something out of the 40's. But, no, they are sheets of printed silk fabric, used for making saris. My idea was to duplicate curtains near a window that was illuminated by the morining light. Regards.

love the right and the flower, the tones and colors are soft yey authoritative, and very clean and clear; uncomfortable with what on this monitor is total black to the left of the vase.

Thanks Ben. Yes, it is totally black (0,0,0); that is how I made it. But I tend to agree that some detail might be a good idea there. It would look more natural. Perhaps a hint of drappery that would fade off towards the frame's edge. Regards.

Walter, this is simply stunning! The sharpness is breathtaking. Wonderful in every way.
