alecee 0 Posted August 2, 2005 Designed by Dennis Santry of Swan & Maclaren, a firm responsible for many of Singapore's other monuments, including Raffles and Goodwood Park Hotels, the Sultan Mosque at Muscat Street, off Arab Street was commissioned following the donations by the East India Company in the treaty ceding Singapore to the British empire in the 19th century. The stately mosque with its signature golden dome remains till today as the principal mosque of the Muslim community, even though there are over 70 mosques in various parts of Singapore. It was declared a national monument in 1975. Link to comment
billfoster 0 Posted August 2, 2005 As always, this is really great work, Alec. I was there in January and took about 40 pictures of this street (with a lot more people on it) but didn't get anything this good. Wonderful! Also, kudos for including a little information about it. I know this is a photo site, but I like to learn about things I see pictures of it and get really frustrated when I see a beautiful scene and the member doesn't even write where he took it from! alecee 0 Posted August 2, 2005 Thanks Bill, Wolfgang, I'm lucky the weather is good with great lighting at 7.30am this morning. Should have taken a panorama but the right side is in the shade and not as interesting. Attached a closer look at the Mosque. Link to comment

jimmcnitt 0 Posted August 3, 2005 The early bird gets the photo. Beautiful light and a handsome composition -- the warm, low light on the facade of shops really makes this work. Is it my imagination, or is the mosque dome of shaped a bit like a tasty freeze soft ice cream cone? --jim Link to comment
alecee 0 Posted August 3, 2005 Spencer, go back and sleep, palm trees have no coconuts! ^_^ Dilber, Maurizio, Cherlyn thanks, next time I'll register to be a tourist guide to make more money then photography heheheh. Jim, the golden dome does look like an ice cream cone, perhaps due to the 14mm wide angle lens. It's actually simlar to the shape of the Taj Mahal. Very grand and stately in a fitting environment. atkphotoworks 0 Posted August 3, 2005 Alec, I definitely like the contrast in styles looking at this one vis-a-vis the other two images which follow. A different side of Singapore to be sure. Link to comment
kristin_morales 0 Posted August 3, 2005 The colors are so beautiful. Interesting lead in as well. You always come up with the best angles on a scene. Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted August 3, 2005 Very nice image Alec, the soft morning light, and the diagonal line of composition going till the dom are very well executed. ( wide angle is great for this). Pnina Link to comment
