What Remains

stoopidgerl

shot on Kodak 125PX.

Ball of yarn and empty can of spraypaint at an abandoned trailer park in Detroit, MI.

This image is a scan from a print that I manipulated in the darkroom. First the image was printed in the darkroom. The image was then scanned. I then used Photoshop to manipulate the image to give it a vintage feel with scratches, grunge, etc. I made aninkjet transparency and used that as a digital negative where I then contact printed it onto Oriental glossy fiber paper.

I feel that the arrangement of two unlike objects creates an interesting scenario/composition. Like a yin and yang. You have the ball of yarn representing one force. It is positive. It symbollizes hope and creation. And then you have the empty spraycan. This object is a discarded tool of vandals. It represents destruction/decay and diminishing hope.

I admire and congratulate you on your post-shoot processing of this shot...the trouble you went to in order to arrive at this destination. However, in my opinion, this shot would have worked equally as well without the grunge/marks/scratches over the image. And actually, this *might* have even been even more effective as a Holga capture.

Oh no no no no no the scratch marks make this picture happen. It's like playing a worn out motion picture it's all thats left behind which is the meaning "what remains". In other words all that remains isn't perfect..flawed is real even if you added it.
