Burano in the lagoon of Venice. This is the original of the oil

painting in the digital alterations folder.

Eye popping color reminiscent of my favorite box of crayons. Wonderful composition to compliment the fantastic colors, or is it the other way around?! Good job!

I have took almost the same one (a bit wider) and haven't dare to show it in Photo.net, thinking it would not interest many members. When I see the ratings and comments you have obtained, I think I was stupid.

Thank you for the kind comment you give to my port-folio. I have take a quick look to yours and tomorrow I will look at it longer because I have seen very interesting shots.

Yes .. you are right. I often wonder about posting shots like this because I wonder if I can contribute anything or bring anything new. Why take a shot of Yosemite? Are we really going to beat Ansel Adams or any of the 1,000,000 others who already shot it? How original is it to shoot a place like this that has been shot a billion times? On the other hand, it's a beautiful place and I enjoyed my time there and enjoyed taking the picture. The colors in it are ... I think ... special. It doesn't have to win awards or be published because it's just something for me to enjoy and share with anyone else who feels the same. Thanks again for your kind comments.

Bill, no matter how many times a scene has been photographed, I think we all bring something of ourselves into our interpretation through the camera. And that will always make it a little different. I really like the close crop and 'intimate' view you've given here. The colours are so vivid that they seem to be seeping into the water and creating that bit of abstract. The pole in the corner is strategically placed, as though it is offered as something to hold onto while the viewer is perched at the edge of the canal. My only nitpick is the small bit of sky, which for some reason distracts me. But cropping that off would cut into the right corner, so I'll just ignore it. Some day I will get to Venice.

Thank you Hanna for your kind words. You have to get to Venice. There is no place like it in the world, for it's sheer beauty, it's unique cukture and the sheer awful touristyness (is that a word) all at the same time. There is no place like it on the earth! This or the little girl by the wagon is probably my favorite picture I ever took. I think this one edges out the other because I made something whereas the little girl was mostly "right place, right time." The sky bothers me also. I tried cloning roof in there at one time, but eventually decided to leave it as I took it.
