This old man has true character! I like the look on his face saying "what you looking at!" Good lighting, good detail, good photo!

I much prefer this to the first submission . It allows the viewer to peer into the subject in his or her own way. It reveals more humility on the part of the photographer in the face of the subject, more sensitivity, more tolerance of ambiguity. The skin textures are more sensual. When I first saw this picture, I thought someone had dropped in a Richard Avedon as a joke, but looking at the rest of your collection, I can see that isn't where you're going. The pictures where you do force yourself more on the subject become so much more illustration than observation, with so much more sentiment, that I find it hard to square them emotionally, to believe they were taken by the same person. I'm really curious about what nourishment you take from visual art other than photography, and what you intend. Forgive me if this blather is just the result of my not having tuned in properly - it's only possible because the quality of the photography is so outstanding.

Howard, you realy make it difficult for me....the 2 of them...I compare and like both

versions, but after going back and forth, that one wins...The glow in one eye is unbelivable good! his expression, well you are an expert in capturing it, a very strong image. Pnina

I know how to fight back against the 3/3 no comment raters. I won't submit any more images. Do you think that will work?

Howard you could do that, but it would be a pity for those who love your work. Or did you mean not submit for rating? Anyway, I gave up bothering anymore for those 'no commenters', just go on taking pictures and show us.

Howard- you have captured quite a character here. Perhaps not the most beautiful, but possibly the most interesting. I really like the light play on his shirt, it continues the patterns captured on his face. Well captured!

He seems to be lost in another world, and oblivious to you. Great capture of an interesting character.

Interesting character, not aesthetically or technically pleasing but an interesting character. He looks like the hillbilly version of Rasputin.

Howard, the 3/3's and 2/2's are too many on good works without explanations, you are right.Therefor stop asking for critique because these numbers are not an index for your work (or good others)and comments are rarly if at all.

But, stopping upload completely, is punishing the members that like and are following your work! I hope, and think that it is not your intention... Pnina

Howard, this is a great portrait. I, don't remember the first one and now it seems it was deleted, but this one is really good. That light in one eye captures your attention already in the thumbnail.

as to the low raters, it happens every time with all requested critiques; maybe ask for critique only. As they don't bother to type a single word, they'll leave the picture alone.

Howard, this is a beautiful portrait. We all know your worth. If you stop posting your images, you will be punishing us. Those morons will win. I implore you to ignore those mentally-sick creatures.

I think you have a good fan base (for lack of a better word) and we would be the losers if you stop posting. You show us real people and the character of those people.

Yes - another wonderful portrait! I just wonder if there's some way to direct attention away from his nose. He's got great eyes, but I keep finding myself looking at his nose....
