hugh_hill 0 Posted July 26, 2005 This is a recent Image of 'Bella' I'd like to know what you think of it and how it may be improved or any thoughts that you may have. I don't know if it is just me but I have been getting a few ratings latley amongst them 2/3's without the users leaving reasons for why they think the images are so bad or even commenting, so please if you think this is bad please just say why and how in your proffessional opinion it could be improved. gopho 0 Posted July 26, 2005 Beautiful portrait. I would, however, like to see more detail in her face, it's a bit blown out. Maybe just a little too much contrast. Either way, it is a nice photo. Link to comment
michael_pierson2 0 Posted July 26, 2005 I like this portrait. A word of advice, don't hold your breath waiting for people to explain low ratings. It practically never happens and its unrealistic of you to expect otherwise. If someone has has rated one of your images a 2 or a 3 what more do they need to say? Besides all that let me ask you this, when is the last time YOU explained to someone why you think their photo sucks? Link to comment
hugh_hill 0 Posted July 26, 2005 Thanks Jayme & Benjamin, Michael, you are right the real ratings comes from those who comment on the artists works and as for what you said about rating artists who's images 'SUCK' I would never wish to insult anyone so would say nothing out of consideration for their feelings as a rule I try not to rate below average for this reason. My work has been good enough for the 'Tate Modern'(London)& the Lowry (Manchester)I am in negotiations for my first book and more exhibitions in Europe . So when I see that someone does not like my work what do I do! I work harder! Benjaman here is one of Bella in colour without any editing thanks again. Link to comment
sionnac 0 Posted July 27, 2005 Nice portrait, I like the sense of arrested motion. Agree about the contrast though, seems a little harsh. Link to comment
ZuikoD 0 Posted July 27, 2005 This is a very nice portrait. The contrast is too much, you can see the digital overblown pixels in the highlights. The cropping, pose and blacks are very nice.Don't take ratings too much into account, nor the lows or the highs, the important thing is if you like it, period. peace Link to comment
hugh_hill 0 Posted July 27, 2005 Thanks guys, What you see here is my attempt at recreating a look from those of images taken in the early part of 1900's I have many variations of this but I feel this one looks the way it should (or the way that I am happy with the achieved result). All it needs now is some sepia & some digitally induced aged damage. The reason I am playing with it is that I have a high profile wedding coming up and the bride and groom have both requested me to be my creative,,,, and I am not going to argue with that now, am I! ;) Link to comment
sjmurray 33,475 Posted July 28, 2005 Striking natural light portrait. BTW I like the color one a lot too, maybe more. I almost always do natural light portraits because the lighting is more varied and complex. The ratings are kind of a joke and I only look at comments myself. Link to comment
celasun 0 Posted August 2, 2008 Bella is beautiful and your photos do justice to her beauty... I liked both the B&W and the color one. I would keep the color one if she was a friend of mine; I would hang the B&W one on my wall (in spite of the seemingly blown highlights) if she wasn't. And, I do not wonder why! Link to comment
