wingell 0 Posted July 26, 2005 Here's a shot used to illustrate a news feature about a protest at Cornell University over the institution's plans to cut down a wooded area to make way for a parking lot. Students and their supporters camped on platforms high in the trees and dug in on the ground in an effort to thwart the construction. After more than a month of negotiations, Cornell agreed to increase its efforts to discourage students' use of cars on the cramped campus and to step up its environmental programs, and the demonstrators came down from the trees and allowed the work to progress. In this photo, a student climbing to a treetop platform takes a cell phone call from a former room mate now living in California. "I'm in a tree...I'll call you later," she told the friend. Your comments and critiques are always welcome. Thanks... Bill Link to comment

wingell 0 Posted July 26, 2005 Thanks for the kind words, Micah. I agree that there is little storytelling in most of the images posted on photo.net. Documentary photography sparks very little interest here--as evidenced in the meager response (positive or negative) to this posting. But storytelling is what I do, and the shot did get viewed by about three million readers of the newspaper that assigned the job, so I guess I'll keep doing it--and posting a few here now and then. Cheers, and thanks again...Bill Link to comment
