pnital 36 Posted July 24, 2005 A real nice one Howard. I wish his face to be a tad brighter. I tried it with some les contrast and a bit more light and it works. Pnina Link to comment
ljk 0 Posted July 24, 2005 Howard, I like this! The tones are very rich, and I like the way his headdress blends into the foliage....Nice job! Link to comment
wilsontsoi 0 Posted July 24, 2005 I feel like the background can be more out of focus, but still works as is with nice tonality, composition, and great outfit. Link to comment
warren williams 0 Posted July 25, 2005 Howard, another really good job. I love his facial expression. I'd really like to know a bit of history behind the dress if you have any. Warren Link to comment
afterthoughts 0 Posted July 25, 2005 Warren, sorry no history. This was an Indian craft show and this man was off to the side in the woods. Link to comment
bens 0 Posted July 25, 2005 outstanding subject, clarity and composition howardm, really has a masterful feel to it, brilliant, strong tones -- VERY powerful stuff. suggest applying gaussian blur to the background left, and brightening his face a little. Link to comment
minicucci 0 Posted July 26, 2005 I really like the original specular highlights in the background. I also think it is OK to make a viewer work a little to catch up with facial detail. The portrait has a lot of pure whites (great contrast control) so it avoids any sense of being too dark (for me, anyway). Link to comment
bens 0 Posted July 26, 2005 looking this morning, i prefer the revision, certainly the background. howard, i want you to know, this is very well done, and a continuation of the advances you are making in candids. the tones and clarity are stunning, refined some for the better from some of your earlier works. the point of view, including the angled position of his body, and the framing of his costume, add dynamism to the shot. its quite inspiring, really gets me interested in picking up my camera and going for a walk. so whatever suggestions i've made, i don't want these thoughts to get lost. one clarification -- it looks like you have lightened all the dark areas, i was thinking just to lighten his face. i think the tones elsewhere in the original are great, just want to see his face a little more readily. home page1 0 Posted July 27, 2005 The detail and tones in this one are very good and the blurred background and face dodging enhances them significantly, worthwhile improvements to the original. Link to comment
alexandra rauh 0 Posted July 27, 2005 This is great!Festive pride,so good lighting, and from the feathers it continues in the more dim lighted trees. Link to comment
