Nice photo and framing. I really like this, but then I have large folder of Shadow Photos. If this were my photo, I'd have made the shadows a tad bit darker. Just a tad...

Shawn, I debated on that...I did want enough of the pattern to show, and so I opted for not darkening them any further...

Thank you for your observations!!

Very interesting, Linda. I like this series.

The patterned shadows makes the image for me. Very well composed.

Would you think the image could be enhanced if the frame was cropped slightly to remove the dark background in three of the four corners of the image? At present, I personally find them a little distracting.

Regards, M.

She's got the whole world in her hands... in her hands... Ok, now that I've firmly planted a deadly ear worm, I'll speculate: The shadow of venetian blinds across a library globe? Is there any significance to the fact you picked the Indian Ocean and not, the Atlantic, Pacific or Caribbean? In any event, the diagonal angle of the shadows immediately draws the eye to what is a very clever and fascinating image. --jim

Well, Jim...that is an area of conflict now, isn't it? And yes! You got it right on the venetian blinds...the effect fascinated me!

This is a lot of photographic I.Q. here, Linda. I like the contrast level as is because it's enough to make out the line pattern and yet viewer can still see detail in shadow area. On the side note, I personally prefer a simpler framing to not take away from the shot. Nice one, Linda. ^_^

I agree with Wilson, super to see the detail even in the shadows. Now please share how you did this. Very expertly done however you did it! Creativity at it's best.

Hi Jayme...the shot is pretty much as I saw it, However in my CS program "shadows and highlights" it gave me a bit more control over my shadow intensity. I adjusted it to the level you see here...

So nice to have you stop by!

Linda- I have to ask, what was casting the shadows on the globe, a blind, or shutter? It's very, very neat the way it circles the globe!

Jayme...it was early AM and the sun was peeking through the blinds. I have the globe sitting on a shelf by the window...

An imaginary Lion, that runs around the center of the world...yes I remember thinking..."What about all that water..." you know how cats HATE water !

Welcome to the digital world...a blessing and a curse ! Fun days ahead, working out all the dials and switches on these darn things !

I thought to myself: who'd bother to get the camera in early AM to catch such an interesting moment? Then I noticed the new D50. :-)

I must confess my camera was practically in bed with me for the first month, but don't tell anyone, Linda.

What do you mean..."practically"? LOL

Yeh, that and the manual, too!

Funny thing is, I decided to change it out for the Canon 20D. Thought I'd get more mileage with all of my EOS lenses....

This is wonderful! It appeals to so many of my senses! (Especially my sense of TRAVEL!!) The curved shadows are great, and the texture on the surface of the globe is also very intersting. Wonderful work with your studies in texture!

Wonderfully eye-catching and original shot. It would be quite complicated living in a world where day and night were in a series of bands across the globe. Fortunately no one has yet managed to get that huge venetian blind into space but one day...
