This is part of a hull of an un-seaworthy salmon boat.

Wow! Beautiful color and texture. What a catch. Same goes for the companion image.

Prefer this one to the portrait, don't like the white dribbles on that one, seem a little out of place. The warm and cold halves here are interesting, the scratches are a little scary, but the meandering blue river on the right adds a lot of interest. Also, that long, diagonal scratch on the left seems to be acting as a frame from the cold half, adds a bit of structure to everything.

I like the earthtones and color balance. The 'scratches' are a little distracting, though. Is this a CU of a vase or some other type of pottery?

Stephan nailed it: one of the powerful parts of this picture is indeed the (diagonal long) scratch. To me it works very well in connecting the predominantly warmer left-hand side with the predominantly colder right-hand side. All in all this is a very pleasent interpretation of the rusty theme, and I like the way the horizontal framing gives rythm to it in going from warm left to cold right and then back, thanks to the omega-shaped structure to the right.
