Water and Shelter

An old tornado shelter, for protecting people and snakes, and a

windmill for pumping water. Everything one could need on the plains.

i like this Barry. its interesting subject matter, well composed and the colors are very well done. might be a little too sharp for me. consider leaving a little more space around the edges. how far away were you from the subjects?

This was taken with a 105mm lens and this is about full-frame - no crop. If I had included more, it just would have been more brown wheat, and most would have said "Why didn't you crop closer?" The Kiron 105mm is one of the sharpest lenses ever made, and when you scan the image, this is about what you get. I actually thought about trying to soften it. I was probably about fifty or sixty feet from the subject. I have one of these taken with a 28-210 zoom that's much softer, but I decided to post this one. I took several different shots of several different broken down windmills that day. Here's one taken of the same scene in winter with a Koni-Omega. Thanks for stopping by. Always enjoy your stuff.

you are right, like the closer view as you have posed, and the color matters in the shot as well.

The composition is pretty good here...but that white-washed sky really takes away from the effect. Looks like it was taken mid-dayish, which is probably not the best time for these kinds of shots. You've got the eye for finding a good location...be patient and come back when the lighting is more dramatic...Boy...if you could be here where one of those prairie storms rolls across the horizon...I can see this rather ordinary shot being transformed into a real looker. Try different angles...look up instead of out...Isolate...use the light...be patient and know how your camera handles itself in various lighting conditions. What your eye sees isn't what the camera sees...and keep on shooting!
