too bad, Tim? ok next time remember me to cut the trees to avoid the shadow's effects. Probably you must calibrate your screen because the face of the small one at the right is perfectly clear in the original photo.

The lens used in a sigma 500 in a Nikon D100 (around 650)

nice job. So often we are shown the ferocity of bears.

I like seening the gentler side.

congrats on a good capture.

(and if one is in the shadows, well, that is what nature gave you)

thanks for sharing such an excellent photo, (7/7) is all I can give. about that baby bear in the shadow, i donno if you did it on porpose or not, but I kinda like it. it gives the viewer more to look at.

Great shot! Congrats! I do wish to see a little bit (just a tiny bit) more detail/light on the baby black bear.

Daniel, I love your work, but I don't like your attitude too much. If you ask for comments, why are you hurt if someone is saying something apart from "great shot"? While there's a lot of idiots here who rate pictures with stupid low rates (I completely agree), someone saying that this (georgous!) shot would even be better if the little one to the right was a bit more in the light isn't saying anything but the obvious.

Are you just sharing pictures to be acclaimed or are you interested in a discussion? I for one would love to know more about how this shot was taken, as I won't be taking pictures when I see a mother bear (or any bear here in California), I will RUN. Therefore, any advise in terms of how to do that would be appreciated, as well as I do appreciate critiques to my pictures. I'm here to learn from people like you, but it is a big discouragement to see others being slapped in the face just for trying to say more than UH! and OH!

Dear Peter. I'm absolutely agree with you. I think here is a problem with the language. Reading the ocmment that says "too bad" I understand that the photo is too bad in terms of quality (too bad in my language means absolutely horrible) and I don't agree with that. But maybe I understood that comment in a bad way, and thus is just saying that the photo can be better with the bear baby with light. If you see my photos I appreciate so much all kind of comments (except those offending me) and even the 3/3 rates (another thing i cannot understand very well). Thank you for your comment. I see, misunderstanding.

Are you gonna tell me how you did it now? even with 650mm, you must have been not more than 200 meters away - I would be scared to death (this is a MAMA bear with her little ones!) unless, let's say, I'd be sitting in a car (which doesn't help too much unless you're really quick in driving off...)

I was in a hide made with wood. I went with a professional photographer in finland (very close to the russian border). They has been working with the bears for long time... but wooden hide was necessary. Cheers from Canary Islands
