Hey Gaetan: A new subject, new camera and a hudge hunk of new glass. Good to see your interest in photography "expanding!" In the case of this little fellow, I think he might benefit from some off-center cropping, as you have done with many of your other bird portraits. Somewhere I read that photographers should always leave more space in the direction that their subject is facing, than they leave behind the subject. Otherwise, the frame can feel "crowded." A second thing I noticed is that while the exposure of this House Finch is certainly "correct," he looks a triffle too bright on my monitor. I looked through your bird folder and see many images -- nearly all the Goldfinch and Cardinal photos, for instance -- which have, to my eye, more contrast and, hence, richer color saturation. I've "tweaked" the jpg of Mr. Roselin to boost contrast using the Photoshop "Curves" setting. See what you think. // I failed to get to Quebec City this spring for the first time in many a year. Looking at your portfolio reminds me of how much I missed. --jim P.S. I admire your new subject. Personally, I prefer to concentrate on subjects that can't fly away. :)

Hi Gaetan, it sure is difficult to shoot birds in their natural environment. Their quick movement and scattered lighting normally screws up the exposure. You managed to nail this nicely. Congrats.

One more little nit, Gaetan - a red dot on the left leaf. I'd consider cloning the dark branch on the bottom left, too. Otherwise, nice lighting and detail!
