billfoster 0 Posted July 11, 2005 Very, very nice! How 'bout inculding some details about how you did it? Link to comment
mozgur 0 Posted July 12, 2005 Well, the Manhattan skyline was shot from Liberty SP, NJ. It consists of two landscape shots, each taken at f/5.6 with 6sec exposure @100 ISO. As always, I stitch the frames manually with PS. I set the white-balance to sunlight to enhance the dominant orange hue in the sky. The shots were taken on July 4th, ~10:30pm (about 30mins after the completion of the fireworks show). The extra smoke generated during the show was blowing uptown further enhancing the street lights. The clouds were captured at the sunset in VA after a late rain storm. The scene includes variety of cloud formation, the main light source is the sun setting directly behind me. In the middle there was very tall cloud formation and catching the sunlight high in the sky, and the light was scattered/diffused internally in the cloud, hence creating a huge glowing mass in the center. The cloud images were all shot handheld, and later stitched all 7 (portrait) shots. Well, finally I simply put these two panoramas together as you see here. Hope you enjoy the result. Link to comment
mozgur 0 Posted July 13, 2005 Honestly, when I was working on the image I never thought that this would be perceived as scary. I all wanted to do is to create a dramatic sky over one of the most photographed city skylines in the world. I'd like to hear from people who found this image scary. Why do you feel/think it is scary. Is it the reddish color?, clouds?, location?, or is it the combination of all elements? I am surprised by the perception and would like to understand it a little better. Link to comment
renny 0 Posted July 13, 2005 ...self evident. Of course it is the clouds, color and composition. One might see a selection like this in one of those end of the world tracts. Link to comment

lonniusmax 0 Posted December 6, 2005 I don't see it necessarily as "scary," but rather forboding. It appears as if something huge is about to come from the sky because the clouds seem to be moving aside, swirling away from whatever is glowing above the city. "War of the Worlds" does indeed come to mind. Also, all of the lights and activity of the city makes it seem as if no one is aware of what is about to occur. Funny what our imaginations will do with such a beautiful combination of images. Excellent work! (And I agree with Aaron here about your restraint) Link to comment
pontus_ter_vehn 0 Posted April 4, 2007 Hey! I read your name in a photo magazine and saw just this pic, and I fell for it. I have no idea how to get in touch with you or so, but I would very much love to have a high definition/resolution version of this pic so I can take it to a photoshop and let them print it out large so I can put a frame on it and put it on my room wall as a painting. :D I don't know if that's in any way arrangeable, and I have no idea on how to get in touch with you. But.. Here's my mail if you feel like leaving me a message: ptv86@hotmail.com Take care! Link to comment
