Nailed it - this is about the most original shot of a couramant that I've ever seen. Also captures their personality quite well. Teleconverter didn't hurt this shot a bit.

 

Noted the one of him stretching the wings, too - they do that a lot, here - is it cooling themselves? I'm not sure.

Thanks for stopping by. This one is about 50 feet away from me. Cormorants stretch their wings to dry. The one shown here I believe is a Double-Crested Cormorant.

I second, and third Chris's originality comment. Nice background also. Cropping dead-center might help the effectiveness of this shot. Very cool.

I think it's great because of the twist to the bird's neck, as well as the in your face sort point of view. In my opinion cropping would spoil the way this image works.

This is a wonderful image--beautifully composed, full of character. It really makes me wonder what that bird was thinking. I've never seen such an evocative wildlife shot. Well done! 7/7
