Refinery (Best Viewed Larger)

The Throb and Hum of an Oil Refinery. Ships passing by made the

glowing red and white stripes. Taken with Nikkor AF 80-200 ED F2.8D

and X 2 Teleconverter mounted on tripod.

Looks like a huge place - too bad about the horizontal lights. Love the night scene, thanks.

With the oil prices hitting US$61, I'm sure the refinery in S'pore is cashing it in ... for PAP, of course. :-)

 

I love the subtle colors of the fumes and the refinery complex.

What are the white and red lines across the frame? Passing ship?

Alec, great result considered using such heavy lens (plus converter) and such long exposure. I guess it was probably quite windy because I can still see some camera shake even you mounted it on the sturdy Gitzo tripod. Nevertheless it's still a fantastic shot.

Thanks guys for coming by and commenting. Jerry I don't think it is camera shake as the smokestack funnels are tack sharp. The soft look probably is due to the X2 teleconverter, the dim lights and also the bright spotlights which burnt out some of the areas.

Looking forward to see what you're going to do with your 50-500 Alec. should be exciting. interesting how the two strokes of light frame the bottom part.
