Trying out the lens with a solid tripod and Manfrotto 268 Ballhead.

Still a lot of vibration in the VF as the wind is quite strong.

Thanks guys for coming by and commenting. My final analysis about the lens and teleconverter.

It has it's limitations. To extend the 400mm to 800mm plus the 1.5 digital factor to get 1200mm is pushing it a little too much. There is limited focusing adjustments on manual mode. The best will be to use a Nikkor prime lens of 400mm up to 600mm with a teleconverter on manual mode. The focusing control is much better. Hoping to get my hands on one soon.

Dennis, the inbuilt VR technology make this lens ideal for street photography. Handheld is no problem if we follow the rule for minimum speed guidelines for longer lens. The AF means your priority is to focus on composition. This lens is value for money.

It has it's limitation if we push it further. Nothing compares to having a solid prime long lens for nature shots. That's why the good optics are so very expensive.

Very nice photograph Alec, the background is superb and looks unlike a photograph , and that is in itself difficult to do (dispite your want to do that or not). I respect and appreciate all of your work on the whole! You have a very prolific and wonderful portfolio, which can take a immeasurable amount of time to look at with the detail that it deserves. I visit often! Kind Regards, Todd
