Does the toning work?

what's the focus here??? I'm not sure where to look.

I think the eye is naturally drawn to the woman carrying the plant, but you're right--there isn't one dramatic subject. The photo is more about a certain ambiance of a certain place.

does seem to draw the eye to the woman then over to the street blocker thing(what on earth are those called?), the trash can (which is awfully bright) and to the older ladies who I find the most interesting.

 

 

Manolis and Knicki, thanks for your comments. Knicki, you're right about that trash bin. If I decide to do anything else with this, I'll make sure to tone it down some.

Robert - I'm hardly one to offer any useful comment, having just started this kind of shooting as well, but I like the gentle ambience of each of these three shots. I like all the activity in the right side of this one - there's some nice dynamism with people heading in defferent directions - and I like the building background on the left. But most of the action seems to stop with the woman with the plant - there's not enough on the left to hold my interest. I agree with Knicki about the trash container - pretty bright. Best, Jeremy

It looks like a virus stroke and everybody is turning into street photography, on which I am not qualified at all to comment I fear... still, one might remove the trash bin and crop just behind the back of the guy with the street lamp coming out of his head. This solution might also give more relevance to the lady and to all other people walking INTO the frame leaving her as the only to go AWAY. Possibly, aspect ratio might be conserved stopping the high part of the shot at the archway...or getting more off the bottom. Moreover, her hair and the plant leaves will have no white competitors in the car and the trash bin.

Still, all the above is to take cum grano salis.
