Summer Boy - 2

jvophotography

He's still almost impossible to get to set still for a picture. I have to catch him on the go. Thoughts and comments greatly appreciated. Second Submission from the outdoor shoot with him. I PS'd out teh background (was ugly) and converted to BW. Outsid eof that, no edits to the shot.

I don't particularly care for the title at the bottom... I think that this photo can stand alone without it.

Alberto: many thanks.

Kim: ya know, I've found that framing and titles are very subjective. I like to frame all my images here on photo.net in a simple format so that a person has to do atleast a LITTLE editing to steal the photo (Not that cropping is hard.)and also because I like the effect of viewing it as a framed picture and that it provides a consitant look to your portfolio as a whole.

Never the less, I hope you are able to overlook the framing and title and just give your thoughts / ratings on the picture itself. Many thanks for your input though.

What a beautiful little boy! I love his light hair and the expression on his face. The shadows are just as great. For me particularly, I like the frame a lot and that is says Summer Boy. I think it completes the composition and works very well with the black backround. Thank you for sharing! Best regards

Darling - I love it! The lighting is really good. Did you ever buy the alien digibees? I saw some of your posting and I too am looking for portrait lighting for a Nikon D70. If you did purchase it, how do you like it???

Joe, I love everything about this photo, from his highlighted hair and his delicatley outlined hand to the detail and texture in his overall. Besides being an unposed portrait, it is a recognition of the transition from infancy to independence with that intense look of determination and learning. He's a real charmer. The frame is pretty simple so it's fine. My only comment there would be to seperate the hair from the border with a bit more black.

Nice skin texture and great lighting. The background looks great- good job there removing whatever was there earlier.

Keep it up.

The background works wonder here and emphasizes the child's thoughts and his action. It looks almost like a studio work with the soft lighting from top against black background. Cool, cool. ^_^

Wonderful detail and nice work on the background. They ARE hard to get to sit still. The tonal range on the skin is super. Nice capture.

Hillary: Thank you for the comments on "summer boy." Some times you forget that you were there and that it may not make as much sense to others. I was really trying to capture the essense of that day in the title. Glad to hear that you liked it.

Emily: Did I buy yet? Nope, not yet. I'm trying to decide on upgrading to the 800's. I will definitely be purchasing them soon and I will make a note to let you know how it goes.

Hanna: Your comments almost brought tears to my eyes. It is a fantastic observation. "Recognition of the transition from infancy to independence." THAT was beautifully said. My little man is getting older. :-) Thank you for your kind words in sharing. (Oh.. I agree about the framing idea and will have to put that into play.)

Azi: Thanks. I spent a good deal of time (especially around the hair since I'm no photoshop expert) cleaning it up. Just for you... I will attach the original. :-)

Tiina: Kids are just so much fun to shoot (even when they don't cooperate) aren't they? You have a couple cuteys as well. Thanks for stoppin' in. :-)

Amar: Thank you. I tried white... no worky!

Wilson: Glad you like it. Your lighthouse stuff has just been rockin lately - got one of my first 7/7's in a while. (anyone that hasn't seen Wilson's lighthouse stuff... please click his name now.)

DOMINIQUE!!!!! Long time no see. Great to see you here again. I have to pop over and check out some of your new stuff.

Jayme: He just DOESN'T sit still at all... thus the... "hey, let's go outside and you can ride your tricycle while we snap a picture." To which his input was... get this stupid itchy pair of overalls off me and I'll ride in my birthday suit!

Thanks again everyone!

Joe.

Your loaded version is definitely the right choice. I like this portrait that shows a kid's restlessness & innocence.

Timo: Glad you agree. Funny thing is, if the background wasn't SO ugly, I'd probably never have tried it this way. Funny how things work out. :-) Thanks for your comments.

Cherlyn: I love kids and their emotions. It's been such a learning experience watching my son and daughter grow. They facinate me.

Mario: It was God's lighting. I wish I could reproduce this in the studio (that I don't have yet.) Workin on it. :-)

Erin: ERIN!!! Great to see you again. Haven't seen you pop in in for ever. Thanks for coming by.

Paul: mysterious brotha! Um... Blue eagle is in the coup. :-)

Basso: Thank you.

Thank you for such kind words. I would say you have an unusual name but perhaps it isn't unusual at all in your part of the world. :-) How do you say it?

Again, thank you for stopping by.
