Trillium Carpet

LenMarriott

I happened on this scene while on a field trip through Grant's Woods, a local conservation area of virgin hardwoods. Only a few days in May will produce the effect you see here. Gotta go back in the fall. Tripod mounted, cable release, and auto exposure through a polarizing filter. Comments greatly appreciated. Best, LM.

I know how I would approach this scene next time I run across it.

What I would like to hear is what YOU would do differently.

Enlighten me with your corporate wisdom:) Best, LM.

Len, Sorry. I'm flat out of corporate wisdom. Serene scene, composition nice as is. I would like to see more contrast.

Charlene, Thanks for stopping by. In lieu of corporate wisdom your personal opinion will do nicely:) I've tried adjusting the contrast upward in PS but find that the light areas, upper right, tend to blow out & cause a visual distraction. This is actually a bit higher in contrast than the original scene as I remember it. (oh yah, memory's always reliable !!!!) Best, LM.

Len... It could be just the light on my computer. Today it looks darker, more contrast(Y) in a different light. I like what you did on the borders (for a frame). I hope to learn how to do these things. This would look nice on my wall! Especially in the dead of winter! Looking forward to more of your trillium carpet series.

Warm Regards,~

Len,

Soothing greens with lots of white flowers to attact attention in the foreground.

Trunks texture provided lots of interests.

Background, though, may need some burning in. Use PS to selectively darken them might work.

Thanks for sharing --- certainly a postcard!

Arthur, Thanks for the validation. One of those rare (1 per roll, if I'm lucky) keepers I strive for. Your suggestion for the backgound treatment has merit but currently I lack the skills for that. Perhaps a PS course at my local community college (50 yards away) would be my best first course of action. Always a treat to hear from you. Best, LM.

Len, it is a very nice spirit of the forest, the forground is so beautiful, imo the background needs some more strenght in order to unify the whole.I worked on it very little with curves , I hope you don't mind. (please let me know if you think it is good, if not, I will delet it,after coming back from abroad.)

anyway, I like it very much. Pnina

Pnina, Thanks for taking the time. I appreciate what you have done though your version comes out a little too dark on my screen. (details lost in tree bark). Just got a new computer so it's possible my monitor settings are a tad off. In any case your point is taken; darken the background a bit! I'll work on it. Best, LM.

Len, Pnina's modification is a winner, IMHO. I suspect that the real answer is to return on an overcast day. It is certainly a lovely scene, well captured.

I like Pnina's version as well as your light and airy version, Len. I wonder how it would look if shot closed down by one-third of a stop.

Lannie, I scan prints on an old, entry level flatbed & probably didn 't 'work' this one as much as I should have. Pnina's version is by far the better of the two & all she had was the file I posted. So, I tried again, rescanning & adjusting in PS & came up with yet another version. Hmmm..............., perhaps a little too heavy on the Contrast & Saturation. What think ye? Is it better than my original? As good as Pnina's? I'm satisfied a good technician (not sure it could be me) could make a decent print from the neg. Bloody 800 speed Fuji film still amazes me. Best, LM.
