I agree with Jennie... the model seems too mad or serious or posed. I would like to see a more natural pose and maybe a composition that isn't so central. The setting is nice though.

I actually did spot meter it. parts of her skin were blown out but just barely. I am sorry I don't know what you mean with the light.

I took this series with a Mamiya TLR, and it was for a class project of hers (she wanted to pose and that is why I took them) for this reason I tried to expose it just right.

I have more shots than posted but these are just my favorites

thanks btw, for taking time to comment.

this series seems to be a favorite, but it is hard to do more work in this style or setting since it is only once a year that the place has all those flowers. and then I have to drive up there to do it. (other images for the same project had different settings)

anyway.

I think I understand what you mean. how would you bring emphasis on the forground? the depth of field is pretty broad, but I think that it would detract from the image if it were limited. that leaves contrast. I could try to reduce the contrast in the background. but I wouldn't want to do that too much for fear of loosing my 'unmanipulated' image criteria. the series is on color film so maybe I can lighten up the red (trees in the back ground) to reduce the contrast, that might stay within my idea of unmanipulated.

is this kind of what you mean?

I will have to get a view camera one day, and try out your suggestions. or if I find a wide angle lens for the mamiya, then I will do that.

as for the unmanipulated, I have a lenient idea as to unmanipuled (I can only do digital, I have never used a darkroom). I will sharpen, use curves, filters, gradient filters, and even some selective sharpening sometimes. but if it is something that requires me selecting part of the image to manipulate it separately (except maybe for "exposure" adjustments) then I feel I step outside this line I have drawn for myself. It isn't that I don't think or believe it is right or wrong, just that for some images I want to keep the realism believable (I guess that is the right word). I like digital manipulation too, although I have a little way to go before I am really good at it.

I really like the idea of the night/evening image you mention. for that look I would almost wait for a good storm to come brewing through. and shoot then. but I will definately keep that in mind, and look for a wide angle lens (I really don't have one for any of my cameras right now, and I find myself wishing I did sometimes. but it has been the next thing on the 'to get' list for a little while now. Both Mamiyas have the normal lenses)
