gnashings 5 Posted July 11, 2005 This is a very rare bird - not only is it a Spitfire - it holds many different historical significances. From a photographer's standpoint, its paint scheme is unusual - and unlike many warbirds that were repainted by civilian owners, this one was flown in combat in this black with red motif scheme. It may also been one of the last combat uses of a MkIX Spitfire - a tribute to the aircraft, its designer, and not the least, the pilots who flew it into the jet age and came back alive! Lovely lighting on this shot, the light glinting off the canopy... great! Link to comment
