Another interesting "take" on a mountain scene. The composition and overall pink tones are a bit flat (but not in a bad way). This kind of reminds me of a silk screen, a printing method I never could quite master.

I like the horizontal elements in the water and the sky broken up by the angular lines of the mountains.

Very gentle scene, nicely composed as ever. I think you have some synesthesia going here Robert, about which Salvatore and I have had a number of discussions with mountain shots. This completely captures the stillness of the air at (I'm guessing) sunset, when it begins to cool off. For my part, it brings back memories of the smell of the dust on the rocks, and the heat settling down in the trees. Very restful to be on the valley floor too, with plenty of cool water around, and no more ascent / descent to deal with. The shot's growing on me the more I look at it. Best, Jeremy

Jeremy and Laurie, thanks for your comments. This was from the one decent sunset/sunrise I had at Glacier--not spectacular at all. It was very peaceful, however, sitting on the walkway outside my hotel, snapping a few in between sips wine. Perhaps less wine would have resulted in better photos, but would have detracted from the photographer's overall experience.

Jeremy, your comments about synesthesia were quite interesting (and where is Dr. Mele, by the way?)--I'm sure it's part of what attracts many of us, whether we're conscious of it or not, to photography. I spent much of my academic career writing about the sublime and counter sublime in poetry, which I think have some relation, however distant, to synesthesia. For me, this photo will always be about the sensation of cooling air, good cabernet sauvignon, the warmth of my wife's hand, the massive ring of mountains, and a sense of utter peacefulness. Photography, for me, will always be an elegaic art.
