tom l 0 Posted June 17, 2005 This is a really nice photo Richard. I do however have a question. As nice as this photo is, I'm not sure I agree with all 7's so far for originality. This is not meant as a "sour grapes" comparison, but as an honest attempt to understand how I can improve my own photos (and scores). I shot recently a black and white flower photo and it received a nice group of responses but did not score anywhere near as well as this did especially in originality. The photo I'm referring to can be seen at: http://www.photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=3368516 I have posted other flower shots and it is not uncommon to receive one or more "3's" from some anonymous raters for originality. Seems like there is a certain group of raters that deem flowers shots as unoriginal to begin with, which is discouraging after posting a new image. Again, I'm truly interested in a comparison of the two with respect to what makes one flower shot more "original" than the other. Thanks, Tom Link to comment

cynthialeemaris 0 Posted March 11, 2006 The rose may be art's most popular subject over centuries. The reason lies here in this beautiful photograph -- in a handful of space you've captured line, curve, texture, tone, detail and light. I am inspired. Peace, C. Link to comment

tonyazzopardi 0 Posted July 5, 2010 Beautiful image Richard, even though we are used to seeing rose shots in colour, this image works great in B & W, and great B & W work it is too. Well done. Link to comment

johnborg 0 Posted July 6, 2010 Fantastic image! Superb light, detail, grayscale tonality and contrast. The light reflecting off the water droplets adds interest and highlights. 7/7 Link to comment
tomadakis 0 Posted July 7, 2010 Richard, nice work! the light is perfect, the DOF and detail just right. The rose is not an original subject but your professional presentation here makes it so. Link to comment
