Shamir,

It's better than the average Holiday shot. The thing that would make it a great picture is to bring the main theme (which I think would be the church against the side of the fjord) more into the picture. Either by moving closer or using a longer lens. Or even by just taking it vertically.

Regas thanks for your suggestions and comment, unfortunately I was there just for a holiday. I like your suggestion for a crop, but I also wanted to contrast the immensity of Nature against the small isolated Church, a theme that has been done a lot better by a couple of other photographers here on photo.net. Might further play around with the image, the larger photo on here is way too large and the small one does not do justice to the image.

Hello Shamir:

This is by far my favorite of the three pictures you posted -- precisely because it suceeds so well in expressing your intention of contrasting the immensity of nature against the small, isolated church. The composition is very good and you've put the church just about exactly where it needs to go (at the "intersection of thirds" to become the focus of interest in this scene. Technically, the flaw in this image is related to the exposure -- specifically the highlights are so "burned out" at the point where the grey sky and white snow overlap, that they both blend into whitness. If you shot this in the Canon RAW format, it is likely that you adjust the exposure and shadows enough to tweak some tones back into the snow and sky. If you didn't shoot in RAW, you could still use Photoshop's "Curves" settings to bring the exposure down by perhaps 1 and 1/2 stops -- but probably not enough to correct the overexposure. Another solution would be to crop just below the overexposed area. This would sacrifice some of the "immensity," but not too much. Hope this makes sense. --jim

Hi Jim,

Thanks for your comments and suggestions, I'll try and correct the overexposure in Photoshop, I don't think it is a RAW image, if not the crop. Cheers.
