Bardstown, I've been there. Is "My Old Kentucky Home" still the beautiful and well preserved place it always was? The flower garden still there?

Jim- It is! The flower garden(s) are wonderful! I love just rambling around there early in the morning before it gets too hot and too crowded with too many tourists. It is spectacular in the fall, all the burning bushes (like being in a cotton candy cloud) and butterfly bushes. I enjoy sitting under a shade tree and watching people play the art of golf! :) Don't enjoy playing the game myself, but it sure is interesting watching others play! Keeps me occupied for at least 45 minutes & makes me smile. My only complaint...... they close the park at 5:00pm. I'd love to get some later in the day shots. I imagine I could probably talk to a few people I know and find a way in after hours, but I just wish they'd remain open in the summer until 8pm so all could appreciate it's beauty.

 

If you've been to Bardstown, you've probably heard of Bernheim Forest. A beautiful reserve with lots of amazing things to see. Also one of my favorite places to visit and hike around on the trails.

Jayme, I like the daring angle - quite different from the typical flower pic. It's a bit like a modern botanical study of the various stages of the flower. The colours are delicious too - right in fashion with this year's colours. I'm not sure about the white blur in the top right corner; not sure if cropping would improve it or not. But it's an eye-catching image all the same.

Thanks Hanna, If I remember correctly the white blob is a weed! :) Maybe I should clone it out???

Cloning might be the answer because cropping would remove the dark green vertical leaf which grounds the right side. By the way, I'm glad you included all the dead heads in the other shot of these cornflowers. It's realistic and adds dimension and texture.

Hmm, Jamie, on the whole I prefer the original. I think you've made the new version too dark and it's lost its light, delicate feel. You've also lost the vertical leaf on the right, in the darkness. Sorry to be so picky but it's the delicate fresh colours that originally attracted me to this. This is of course just my peculiar opinion and all to be taken with a pinch of whatever {~;

Hanna- I appreciate your input. You know I love your images. I tried just about everything I could think of to clone, paste, fill, paint, etc the white area, I just wasn't satisfied. Here's what I think. I seem to tap into whatever my emotional status is at the time when taking my images. Just like the weather, it changes. The day I took these originals, I was feeling light and playful. Since then, I've had a few dark days, and the darker image kind of shows them. Today is a beautiful, overcast day, cool, but not too cool. I plan on visiting our local reserve and using the over cast sky as my softbox, to capture some beautifully peaceful images. I hope it works! Thanks for the suggestions. I appreciate your opinion.

Lol. I know what you mean. We're having a long spell of overcast weather - a disappointment for June but the best thing possible for flower shots.
