colin carron 58,916 Posted June 12, 2005 I got a bit wet taking this as it was raining at the time. All comments welcome! Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted June 12, 2005 Colin, where is it? your usual introduction of places is missing this time,I like a lot the house in the mist and the green color that is receding in intensity toward the horizon. it looks very deserted and the sheeps are the only sign of life. simple and effective. ken_thalheimer 3,739 Posted June 12, 2005 I think the mood works so well I almost feel I'm there. Good shot Link to comment
martin. 0 Posted June 12, 2005 I'm glad you got wet so we could see this :). A well caught image of the rain and cloud coming down, with subdued but effective colours. Is this Fairfield Church? Martin. Link to comment
siw_lindel_f 0 Posted June 12, 2005 Lovely photo, sorry that you got wet. Regards Siw Link to comment
atkphotoworks 0 Posted June 12, 2005 Nothing like just getting out there and getting wet huh Colin? But let me say, thank something you did. This is a great image and nicely composed. The sheep on the bottom left, the structure on the top right corner (almost) gives a nice balance. The combination of colour from the grass and the clouds/fog also provide a sense of balance. I'd also like to see this in B & W. Great work Colin. Link to comment

colin carron 58,916 Posted June 12, 2005 Thanks everyone! Pnina, Martin, yes this is Fairfield church which stands all on its own in a field on Romney Marsh on the south coast of UK. It is a very flat, low lying area with big drainage ditches full of water and nothing much else but sheep. I have some other shots of it n my portfolio. The reason it is on its own is that the medieval village it served has gradually been deserted and left it by itself. Amar, I agree about the b&w - I did a monochrome version but I was not entirely happy with it. I'll maybe have a go at it soon. I have found that some of the shots I am most pleased with have been taken in rain. It doesn't do the camera and lenses much good but the atmosphere is nice. Having got all my gear wet I had to have the heater in the car on full and the camera bag open on the seat the whole way home. I and the camera seemed to survive! Link to comment
camilla 5 Posted June 12, 2005 This is stunningly beautiful. Looks like a painting, and you did it with light! (and a little bit of rain perhaps :)) Link to comment
home page1 0 Posted June 13, 2005 Great composition and textures with a really nice mood. Well done. Link to comment
kslonaker 0 Posted June 13, 2005 Looks like a painting. Very nice atmosphere, Colin, and well worth getting wet! Link to comment
alexandra rauh 0 Posted June 13, 2005 Colin! I was thinking of a painting too.Calm atmosphere. The sheep's in the forground, the nicest welcome. With the misty rain, but light comes thru. dim rich colors.all together, beautiful. You must have been fascinated, not mind the rain. Link to comment
pjmeade 12 Posted June 13, 2005 Colin, no pun intended, but this does have the look of a watercolour about it, especially the way the background has become quite blurred. The composition is, as ever, excellent. Very best wishes. Peter Link to comment
paula grenside 0 Posted June 13, 2005 This is mighty fine, Colin. Pastoral as in the best painting tradition. Love the composition, the diagonal formed by the sheep and the house. Link to comment
sef1664877429 0 Posted June 13, 2005 Very atmospheric, and the cross-over of the sheep seems to add just a hint of the surreal to an already spooky scene... the scenes horror's are made off, to paraphrase some bloke. What you can't see in this shot is the Witchfinder General himself riding up to the church, about to cause some trouble... Link to comment
amalsircar 2 Posted June 13, 2005 Excellent composition, colours, and sylvan mood,Colin. Link to comment
wilsontsoi 0 Posted June 13, 2005 Colin, very nice composition and mood. Although it'll probably work just as well in monochrome, I feel that the retention of original color capture here is definitely successful. Link to comment
allonkira 0 Posted June 13, 2005 Wonderful moody image, Colin, with perfect comp.! rgds, allon. Link to comment
carsten_ranke 0 Posted June 13, 2005 Very attractive the blur effect of the rain with shallow tele (?) DOF, a superb soppy sky and muted colors - it was really worth the risk. Excellent result ! Regards Carsten Link to comment
Sandeha Lynch 5 Posted June 13, 2005 It's as unusual as some of your wide angle work, Colin. It looks far more foreshortened than a 135mm would create - consequence of the rain, perhaps. Link to comment
