hanna_cowpe 0 Posted June 10, 2005 This is the bridge and opera house as seen from Luna Park. Your comments and critiques are very welcome. Link to comment
jim kerr 0 Posted June 11, 2005 Wow Hanna, talk about filling the frame. Now I really think this is super. The "less is more" advocates may not agree, but I think this is done so well.....Jim Link to comment
peter_daalder 0 Posted June 11, 2005 It has been far too long, since I visited Sydney... So, I very much appreciate this particular view (and treatment) of the old 'coathanger'. When exactly did you sneak into our nearby backyard, Hanna? Link to comment
smhickel 0 Posted June 11, 2005 I have never been to Sydney... been to Perth though. This is a wonderful photo. The bridge itself carries the photo, the fact of the famous sales, makes it even more appealing. Well done! I wish the boat was in it. I would have rated 7's then... r, Steve Link to comment
hanna_cowpe 0 Posted June 11, 2005 Thanks for taking the time to comment. Jim, you're right, it's a full picture, and just what I was trying to relate about this busy and wonderfully picturesque harbour. I'm very interested in architecture and bridges, and Sydney has such an exciting mixture of styles from across the decades. Peter, we were here in Feb/March (a third visit) and there's never enough time to see it all. Hopefully next time we'll work our way south. Stephen, it's nice to hear from you. The wake is telltale isn't it? I don't remember what kind of boat it was but I'm pretty sure I waited for it to pass because it would have been blocking one of the things I like about this bridge and that is the 1930's towers on it. If you squint, you'll see there is a boat in the scene - one of the ferries which runs between Sydney harbour and Manly. Link to comment
colin carron 58,916 Posted June 12, 2005 A beautiful shot and the sepia works well. The towers and the way the steel arch is heightened at the ends are the most criticised bit of Sydney Harbour Bridge as they are purely decorative. Techically the Bayonne Bridge in New York is a purer design but it just doesn't quite have that star quality, does it? Link to comment
hanna_cowpe 0 Posted June 13, 2005 Colin, that is a nice, sleek look and I'm all for streamlined structures, but every era has its style. If you want to climb this bridge you can part with a fair sum and do the tour, but I preferred to look at it rather than from it. Link to comment
colin carron 58,916 Posted June 13, 2005 Oh I think I would have parted with the cash! Nothing like looking at bridges close up, inspect the structure, check for corrosion etc... Link to comment
connealy 0 Posted June 13, 2005 That's a very nice shot, Hanna. The lines, tones, textures and shapes all seem to work very well together to contribute to the over-all composition. I'm always impressed at your ability to get just the right picture from any piece of architecture. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted February 19, 2006 Nicely composed. The "cliche" shot here is from much closer to the bridge, and I much prefer yours, with the railing forming a diagonal to the lower right, the bridge one to the upper left. I admire your creativity in coming up with something definitely superior to the "standard" shot. Link to comment
