Maria,

I saw your photo as I was going through the "Rate Recent" photos...

My initial reaction was that it is completely out of focus and distorted (the buildings in the front are distorted by wide angle lens) and the whole image is blurry with no central idea.

Rather than rate the photo based on this, I wanted first to ask you what your idea was. Maybe you are going for a certain "look" or maybe you are trying an idea. I don't want to give you bad marks when maybe I am missing your intentions.

If your intention was to show depth-of-field then you accomplished it. Aside from that, I don't see what your objective was. Even if the photo was clear I am not sure it would be very interesting.

Right now the only clear part of the image is the 4th floor window in the center. Is there something special about that window?

What are the people on the ground doing? I don't know because I can't see them.

I see you are using a Zenit camera. I wonder if this is the way the lens treated the scene or if the photo is intentional.

I am interested to hear your ideas on this photo.

John

Hi John,

sorry for the delay, I finally have some more time.

Well, it was raining. But I did not have the opportunity to visit Leipzig to a less rainy time.

The subject was, from my point of view, interesting. It is because the area in central Bucharest, called Lipscani (the actual historic centre) is told to be built and inspired by business men from Leipzig (Lipsca in Romanian of that time). When I was in Leipzig my feeling was that it is more spatious than Lipscani. I tried to find some place where the space feeling is comparable. Some photos of Lipscani, and I attach one more, can be seen in the following photos, and also in their comments:

I found that the presence of the bow-window was dividing the facade and gave somehow the scale in Lipscani.

The people on the ground do nothing interesting; I think they just rush with their umbrellas.

The Zenith lens was OK, generally, but at that moment the diaphragm could not be set (it was blocked), so I could only adjust the other parameters.

thanks again and I hope this helped

Maria
