single photos look out

It befuddles me that this image would be given ratings of 4's. I was a bit disappointed to find out it's in a zoo. BUT...the color scheme is terrific! The composition is spot on with the Rule of Thirds. The "lines" in this pic are another strong point...particularly the one that runs from the top of the left rock, throught the head of the meer cat and to the top of the rock on the right. Then there are the fanning lines that seem to radiate toward the upper right from the meer cat itself. The texture of the rock is appealing and the fact that a most inquisitive creature as a meer cat is not watching you. But since this is in a zoo, the animal could be distracted by any of many things. But the comnplete, side/profile shot is yet another asset.

Maybe top-flight photographers on Photo.net can see problems with this picture or the low scores come from people who have cameras capable of making sharp images, so they think they're automatic gallery curators. :-) I doled out a 7/7. Cheers.

You never know what will rate well and frankly don't care but to get good critic's you have to keep posting. I liked this shot as well as some of the others taken that evening but frankly the iso setting of 800 keeps me from saying this is my best
